Hesitation!!

I noticed yesterday when shifting into 4th gear while accelerating, my Jeep, which is a '99 Sport 4.0 in-line 6, gave me some hestitation, and sputtered a little bit. I am going to start with the basics, but I was wondering if anybody had any ideas as to what is going on. I am going to check he airfilter, and spark plugs first. Any suggestions on which spark plugs, and airfilter? My Dad said he used the Platinum plugs, and I can't remember which brand they are, and he has never had to change them in forever!! I would appreciate any input...Thanks...

Matt

I would use a regular Fram air filter or any brand for that matter, as for plugs, i'd save a few bucks and get conventional style plugs. You can use platinum if you prefer, its just that some older engines don't like certain brands...wish I knew which ones. Another thing I would look at/replace is the distributor cap and button. I had an engine miss and found one of the posts was corroded severly under the cap. Its cheap and easy to do, good time to replace the wires too. Its good to replace these things every so often any way, that would great if it fixes it!
