Hi everyone...!

I just got a '97 TJ (4cyl) and wondering when it is do for the timing belt/water pump?

It has a 4" lift and 33"s on it, with a flowmaster exhaust and cosmetics...

Is there any way I can add some power to it?

I heard of the intake option with throttle replacement, which adds 10-12hp.

Is that true or anything else that will work better..?

It has high HWY miles and might be do now.

Any recomendations..?

very nice, there is no point to the power things most people say they are a waste of money, at the most you'll get 2-3HP for about $100

theres nothing you can do about having a 4Cyl besides regear it lower, which is what i suggest depending on what gears you ahve now

I've heard a lot of people buying different air intakes, throttle body spacers and changing the exhaust to increase hp, but debruins is right as the most noticable change would be to regear. IMO for the money that it would take to regear and do small performance upgrades, you would be better off swapping out that 2.5L for a 4.0L.

That's expensive. Let's face it...you have a very capable offroad vehicle which performs less than impressively on the road. That should be why you bought a wrangler. You can throw a ton of money at it and still have a great offroad vehicle that performs less than impressively on the road. Use it like it was intended and have a good time with the top and doors off. IT'S A FREAKING JEEP!!!

many report minor power gains with a 4.0L throttle body. (find one at junkyard)
read the 2nd sticky thread in the TJ section.. it talks more about it there
called tj faq, newbie this ones for u... or something like that

gears will be your best option for power gains followed by boost such as turbo or supercharger but that can get expensive especially when the power bug bites you hard.

A lot of people dog out the 2.5 4 cylinder. It all depends on how you use your jeep. I drive mine a good bit on the highway, and I have no problem maintaining 65-70 mph most of the time. If you live in a particularly hilly area it may be a problem for you. I have the 4.0 throttle body upgrade and I'm happy with the performance. It cost about $40 to do it. I have never had a problem with my 2.5 getting me where I wanted to go.
