Talking Hi, I'm new and a new PROUD owner of a 2001 Jeep Wrangler!!!!

Hi everyone, I'm new to this forum. I just want to drop by and introduce myself to everyone here. I've recently purchased a 2001 Jeep Wrangler (after 8 years of wanting one) in maroon. It's a 4.0L, stock with 112, 655 miles on the meter, hardtop, and it's auto.....I know, I know (the auto part is really for my wife to drive as well). I'm very excited about my first jeep ever! It's quite a change from my Brabus modified mercedes, but, I'm loving EVERY moment of it!!! I am completely new to this whole "jeep" thing, I just know that I've always wanted one. I don't know much...anything about it, so please feel free to comment/criticize on this model and year for I am interested on learning the ups and downs on this model.

I will post pics once I figure out how upload the photos. Thanks everyone!

I know the feeling.we bought an 06' w/ the 2.4 with 15,000 miles and the 6spd,and love it!! I can see where the 4.0 would be nice but we still love it,and everytime we go for a drive we ask ourselves why we didn't get one years ago.(5 kids, thats why) after we got ours my parents got one,and now when we are around our friends they talk about wanting one, they are just good all around fun no matter what you are doing with it,but it's hard to beat night drives with the top off!!!!!!!!!

My new jeep has a hardtop and I would like to purchase a soft top for summertime driving. My funds are limited at this time, so, can any of you jeepers point in the right directions on what's a good soft top brand, and yes...cheap? I am totally new to jeeping and I am completely ignorant about what the options are and what to avoid. Thanks in advance.

From one owner of a 2001 Maroon (Sienna Pearl Coat) Sport w/ auto, to another.... welcome. As for soft tops, your best bet is best top. They make the OEMs and you can find a bunch of them on craigslist for about $400. For new choices, and variety, use the automated 'soft top advisor' on the quadratec website. Here is the link:

Thanks G-pur. How is your 2001 wrangler running? Mine is rough from first to second gear, but, I've heard that that's normal. I will post some pics once I get a chance to do so. Can you post some pics of yours? Thanks again.

Hey JC, here's a link to a trail ride that DJeep98 and I did a few weeks back. Click here The tranny is really pretty smooth, but the last week or so I've had a mysterious check engine light come on and off for days at a time.

G-PUR....really nice photos. My jeep looks exactly like yours, except with a hard to. I really want to take my hard top off for the summer. I need to get a soft top for it first though. Your trip looks so much fun....can't wait until I take mine offroading.

Do you need a full soft top? Or do you think you would be fine with a safari top? You have a hard top so you will need to get the soft top hardware too. That includes the bows, the door surrounds, and tailgate bar. If you don't need an enclosed soft top think about the safari top, all you need to get is the windshield channel for $25 I think, and the tops are usually under 70 bucks new!

From one new forum member to another, this place is helpful and polite. On the top issue, you can go with just a bikini top and save some $. Run the hard doors on the cold mornings. I ride ALLOT in in crummy weather, so maybe this is not great advice.

Maybe save some money there and add a few other parts along the way. Good luck, but gotta tell ya.........you have now started something that will NEVER be finished

welcome to the world of jeep. I too am a "newb" to Jeeps.

I will second the suggestion for "Bestop" brand of soft tops. (ebay may be your friend on a new top).

Good luck.
