Question High idle when stopping?

So my 2006 Unlimited was paid off last month, this month it's about fixing a lot of small problems! LOL 135k miles so I can't complain too much.

I noticed the last few days when stopping at a stop sign or light it wants to idle at 1100rpm or so, but not all the time, sometimes it's 900 other times it's normal.

So I've read about the TPS, cleaning and going from there. So where is it?

it souds like at high rpm's you can't tell it cause the rpm's are there. but I would start at the air filter and look at it. you know the thing's that don't cost anything unless there bad.but something is making it pull the rpm's like it's not getting what it needs. if not the Air look at the gas witch is the same thing is the TRS throttle reponse sencer. but it also could have a vacome leak some where. my speeling is not to good but maybe you can make it out. I try but Good luck. p.s. auto zone will put it on the computer for free and it will tell you what it is.

The TPS is on the side of your throttle body. If the problem is at idle, I'd look at your IAC (Idle Air Controller) also. It's on the other side of the throttle body. The plunger in that thing gets gunked up. If you're not throwing any codes, I'd clean out the throttle body and the IAC first. If it's still messed up, check for vacuum leaks.

My 2000 TJ is doing the high idle thang too but only occiansionaly. I replaced the TPS and it runs better with more acceleration and better MPH but still rev's up once in awhile. I'm going to the IAC clean-out next. Checked all the vac lines but they appear Ok. If it's fuel filters (cringe) that's a expensive fix.

I washed my Jeep today and used the high pressure hose to clean the throttle assembly, everything is fine now.
