How many of you have the 4.0L, with 200,00 + miles on it?

How is it holding up?
Are you considering rebuilding or swapping out the motor, or is your original engine still doing the job?

Current 4.0 has 115K, runs like a champ. Had an '88 Cherokee that my parents bought new, gave to me with 150K, I put another 30K on it and sold it to my neighbor. He was still driving a few years ago at 220K. To my knowledge, it only ever went through two water pumps, and every couple years, we replaced the "spider"... all the pcv-emissions tubes on the top of the engine just as a matter of course. Thats' it.

Sold my 98 Jeep Sahara with the 4.0L that had 260k on it. Though she showed a little age the engine still didn't burn any oil and only would use a little oil every 1500 to 2000 miles about half a quart to be exact not bad at all in my book. I think that was due to worn valve seals more than anything because it still had really good compression. At 150k I did replace the rear main seal and valve cover gasket but, any 4.0L will have a leaky valve cover or rear main at some point especially once they hit over a 100k. My 05 has 105k and runs better than it did new lol go figure. Honestly, I don't think any Jeep engine much less any gasoline enigne period thats more robust and simple as this engine is. The only other Jeep engine that comes close is the 3.8L. I would like to see the pentastar get just 200k with not having to take 20 heads to do it lol. Not knocking the new Jeep engine but, I feel its way overhyped for what it brings to the table in the reliablity department and leaves alot to be desired for my liking. I would much rather have 70 horsepower less and have something that will out live me and that don't take a college degree to work on. Enough of me rambling but, I think its safe to say this engine will do 250k easy even somewhat kept up. God only knows what it will do if its babied.

Im considering buying a 2000 sahara with 4.0 auto 89k on the drivetrain and 200k on the frame, all has been put on in the last few months. 2.0 rough country 4 inch lift, 4.10 gears, 33x12.50x15 grapplers and new 10 inch alloy wheels, newly replaced running gear and bushings. No rust, super clean never been takin in the mud either. very well maintained. He wants 7500 for it. Is this gonna be a good deal and reliable car that is not gonna cost me a lot in repairs and last quite a while?

254,739 right now, about 80 added daily including 4 miles up and down on some serious grades. (Though obvious not a TJ, but still the 4.0 I6)

There is a reason trains, heavy equipment, and ocean tankers use the I6, albeit in diesel. :)

Wow im so glad to hear these reports! mine is a 2002 Apex that had 12,500 on it. Yes 12,500 bought it from an old couple that kept it in an air conditioned garage in palm springs. still smelled new inside. and they gave me a soft top to go with it! I have had it a year and just hit 19,000 mi some mods and lots of trips. Loving it!
