Higher MPG ???

I noticed that, at the top of the forum page, there is a vendor advertising a product that gives an increase of between 4 to 7 mpg.

JEEP WRANGLER GF Peformance Chip

Has anyone tried this product?
If a mpg increase of just 4 mpg IS ACTUALLY possible, this would put us into the 20+ mpg range.

7 mpg increase??? Even better.

I don't know about the wrangler ones, however a buddy of mine has one (same brand) on his 2500 HD Chevy and it added like 3 or 4 mpg. Which is alot for a gas burner getting, 9mpg. They run about $80-if I remember correctly.

Yeah, I thought so.

If it did perform like they claim, you'd be hearing about it like crazy.

If chips mpg chips worked then Chrysler would already be installing them in every jeep. Proper tuning, gearing, mod weight, and driving characteristics offer the best solution in obtaining higher fuel economy.

Oh and not owning a jeep.

Just send me whatever amount they are going to charge you for the chip and do absolutely nothing to your jeep and you will get the exact same result! Only chips that will ever be on or in my jeep are in the paint or windshield!

What the chip most likely would do is cause your air/fuel to run very lean .
That will give you higher mpg and hp . Like the saying goes lean is mean.
What it does not tell you is that running that lean will shorten the life of your engine
by producing extreme cht and egt temps.

I guess they'll let anyone advertise here. There's another thread somewhere about GF and the investigations against them.

The short and sweet version is don't buy that thing...it's just a fancy version of the ricer resistor mod for the IAT sensor which costs 10 cents to do. Some versions of the GF splice into the MAF (many newer vehicles have the IAT built into the MAF) but it's the same BS mod.

7 mpg is hilarious! I've been recording my daily mpg off the scan gauge for over 2 months (most days). I can get 2-3mpg by driving mellow. I have a mpg tune from diablo (and I will custom tune it myself via CMR) that I will evaluate scientifically. I expect about 1-4mpg better for city driving. This is without even changing the AFR. The change comes from when you go into CFSO (coasting fuel shut off). Currently its difficult to enter (I think it needs to be over 3000 rpms) and it exists early. I'll make it easier to enter, and stay in there longer.

The only real way to get even somewhat decent fuel mileage out of your wrangler is drive it slowly. Accelerate slowly and try to time the stop lights so you dont actually have to stop.... I have an 06 2.4L and with this tank so far I've gone 230 miles or so on just a bit more than a half a tank. (19 gallon). That's about 22 mpg. Not too shabby!!! I'd say....

Find yourself an old 5 lb coffee ca, Folgers or Hills Bros works best, get rid of the plastic lid, cut a hole in the bottom of it the same diameter as your tail pipe, paint the can yellow, or electric blue, cut about 6" off your tailpipe, then slide the can unto the remaining pipe and fasten it ... Not only will it make your jeep look really cool, just like those rice burners, but it will add nearly 50 HP, and it will get you 42% better fuel mileage..

Yes. And if you believe that, I have some "ocean front" property in Arizona that you might be interested in.

Lets see: Fuel additive, oiled gauze air filter, computer chip, intake spacer, headers, flex fan blade, synthetic engine oil, cat back exhaust system, fart can muffler. < add all of the "pie in the sky" mileage increase claims and you can remove your gas tank and that expensive gas tank skid plate and just run off marketing dept. hot air.

Big spoilers are only effective on front wheel drives right? So are you sugesting removing the rear driveshaft and running 4 High? ...... Also don't forget to rattle can your hood flat black......thats good for about 65HP on the butt-dyno!
