Hit in the front

Hey guys, I am happy to say I am now the proud owner of a really nice 97 TJ. Everything is still stock and it has been well cared for. My problem is that it has been hit in the front, presumably by a deer. Thats how I got it. Since the Jeep was damaged I got it for a steal. So here I am now trying to find parts to fix it. I need

Passenger Fender-- Found them online for about $150 for cappa certified aftermarket, Replacement brand fenders. Anyone know anything about the quality of Replacement brand parts??

Front Grill-- This has been my biggest hiccup. I cant find these anywhere. Well I take that back, I did actually. But the cheapest I have found is near $600 + Shipping& handling. Thats insane!! Does anybody know where I can order one of these for less? Even if it is used, as long as it is not damaged I would be fine with it.

Stock Fender Flair-- About $50 online, Seems to be the cheapest I can get one for.

So... That is what I am looking at. Anyone have any suggestions on better or cheaper parts? Maybe I am just not looking in the right place. Also where is is the best place to buy nifty little accessory like sound bars without getting shafted in the process?? I know every niche has a quality place to buy quality stuff at great prices, when I realized I was a poor rural southern white boy I found wal-mart, when I started dealing with computers I found newegg... So on and so forth... So... Can you point me in the direction of the nearest Jeep store. If there arnt any that don't ream you out then so be it but if I can find one that will at least use a little lube that would be nice.

Anyway thanks alot guys!! Happy trails!

Yes, it has been a few days ago so I will check again, fenders were more expensive but didn't find any grilles. Just brush guards and inserts and such. AM I searching for the wrong part. I know it is a grille, but it is a bit different on a jeep then most other vehicles. Does it go by another name? I tried looking up radiator supports to see if that did anything and no luck there either.

Try a local Pull-a-part or junk yard. Quite a few were destroyed in the c4c campaign, but you might find something there.

Yup tried that. In my area there is this legendary guy named Ray Roland. I dont know why is he legendary or what for, I just know he is, so I just accept it and dont ask too many questions. Anyway he owns the junkyard I pretty much grew up in. If he had one I could get it for 20 bucks. But no scrap yards within 100 miles of me seems to have a TJ. Which I think is oddness. But anyhow... I dont know much beyond my local area, so I looking in the handy little phone book and "let my fingers do the walkin'..." Called around to a few and emailed others. No front ends. I guess we are all hitting deers and trees maybe. After all that really is all that is around these parts. Deers and trees, every so often you may find a hefty woman pop out at you, which you may also mistake for a deer or a tree. Or possibly a moose... IDK..

Just opened the link in post #5 and had no problem. Another idea would be to type into Google "Jeep Junkyards" and see what you get. We have a good one here in Northern California but you should be able to find one closer. How about Craig's list? Just make sure you put the "s" in it or you'll get a porn site. HAHA

Keep checking back with the junkyards for the grille. Go to one that can run a search of nearby yards. May even be able to find a yard that can search across the U.S. One of the ones here has gotten parts for me like that. I have to find one soon myself. For the fenders, not sure if there is one near you but check out Certifit. I think the last time I checked, they were going for $60 a peice. Also keep a look out on craigslist for one being parted out. Good luck and congrats.

Yup, it opens for me now too. I dont know why it wouldnt at first. I worked at Import Auto Salvage years ago. They had the URG system that would search all junkyards on the system for parts. In fact they still have me on the meet the team section of their website. Even tho I havent been with them for years. I got them to do it but came up dry. I have kept my eye very close to CL, in fact thats how I found my new jeep. I even posted a few wanted ads.

I live in western NC BTW

I dont know... But $400 just seems a bit pricey to me for a used grille. Maybe I was hoping for a cheaper route. But I guess as the old saying goes "wish in one hand and s*** in the other and let me know which one fills up first..."

Flameeater, congrats on the steal/deal of a lifetime. I bought mine also as a repairable, saved a ton by not buying from a lot.
If you buy CAPA rated parts they will be just as good as OEM. I paid $99. per fender thru after market and $400. for the grill-dealer only for new, after market can't get them. Most of the salvage yards I checked the grills were all twisted and not worth touching. Try Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market and it will ask all the questions and you might find something. Try a company called Keystone or Auto Body Panels for the fenders. Good luck

CAPA certified Tong Yang junk! rust out in a year .Ive been doingcollision work for 27 yrs and CAPA shit never fits I would rather straighten oem parts than use China parts.as a matter of fact 1 shop I worked at wouldnt even think of putting China junk on customer vehicles .Yea Insurance co.push the shit cause it is cheaper but not even close to being good as oem.if thats what you want go for it .I found oem used fender s for 100 bucks each in ohio,OEM Grills $25 but they need straightened . how bad is your grill ?Ill keep an eye out 400bucks is outragous .jeeps rust fase enough chinese body parts rust even faster

I didnt know that. I have been to several body shops with it. Hoping against hope that one of them will say... "They quoted you what?! No, no, no... I can fix that for next to nothing!" But to no avail of course. They all recommended me buying my fender from an online shop as long as it was cappa. I would rather put on one that will rust out in a few years and replace it then spend 890+ dollars on a factory fender. Thats almost a grand. For a fender. Make sense? Not to I. I do however like the idea of just waiting to till a used one comes available. I am in no rush. I dont reall know how to describe the grille damage. It looks as tho the "Teeth" are all pushed back almost to the radiator. And the "Eyes" look a touch crossed. But I am still able to drive it. I have thought about just having it straightened out "good enough" and putting a chrome cover over it. Anyone thoughts on that??

Jeeps are worth their weight..everyone in the salvage business knows this.
they are expensive to buy...even totaled. if they have any good parts they cost even more. which translated onto higher used part prices. expect to pay about half of new in most cases for good used oem parts

tht being said I have a passenger fender from an 06 rubicon complete with flare and lights I may consider parting with. You can PM me for a price if you dont find one locally.
good luck on the part search

Update:

Ordered a chrome grille overlay and got the grille straightened out enough that after it was put on you cannot see the damage at all. Even with the hood up!

gajeepdawg-- Thanks for the advice to try Certifit. I went yesterday and picked up a brand new fender for 70 dollars. Also got the maker and turn signals from them as well. $6 for marker, 11 for signal. I was very pleased with the quality of the parts I bought. I cannot tell the difference at all in them and the OEM parts. It was a bit of a drive to the dealer, but I think it was well worth it.

So now all that is left is to get the fender painted and put on then find a flair. Are those TAG pocket flairs worth the money they cost? I really like the way they look but I dont want something that is going to dry out and crack apart after a year or two.
