Hitch Question

First Off! Newbie to the Forum, Thanks for letting me join in!

Now for the question, I have a 97 TJ. I've been thinking about some new bumpers but really don't have a problem with the stock bumpers except! The stock rear bumper has no receiver hitch on it.
Is there and what options is there to add a 2" receiver to my stock bumper, Not looking to tow. Just for some moderate pulling and for accessories like hitch and bike carriers. Will the stock bumpers twist from the weight if something is just fabbed and bolted to it?
Thanks, Fatboy

First, welcome to WF!

Next, do you offroad? If so, it's not a good idea to hang a receiver hitch underneath the bumper because it'll just drag on the terrain. And no, the stock bumper isn't up to having a receiver hitch attached to it.

So if you don't offroad, you can just get a bolt-on receiver hitch from some place like U-Haul. If you do offroad, I'd replace the bumper with one that has an integrated receiver hitch. When they are integrated into the bumper, they don't drag on the terrain. I've been running that style on the back of my TJ for 11-12 years now and it's been a good one for all kinds of uses including towing.

The pic isn't a good one at Olympic 4x4 Products 553-124 - Olympic 4X4 Products 57" Rock Rear Bumper with Receiver Hitch for 97-06 Jeep® Wrangler TJ & Unlimited - Quadratec where one suggested bumper is for sale so here's a little better pic that shows it on my TJ...

The TJ was bought to give a break to my Chevy 2500 HD and to use mostly as my hunting and goofing off vehicle. My off roading consist of cruzing a 266000 acre Natl' Forest mostly on graded roads, wood roads and mud holes.
Not looking for a rock climber, just something to get me in there and back home! No more jacked up trucks either, 35 year of climbing in and out of them, My fat [edit] has had enough!
I do camp when I hunt, (Bow and turkey hunting fanatic) and carry a bunch of stuff when I go thus the need of a hitch carrier.
Been looking at the Smittybilt classic rock crawler bumpers and actually pretty cheap on ebay. I look at the rear bumper and the fuel tank seems a little exposed though on the rock crawler bumper but the rc bumper is cheaper than a class III hitch which I think I would lose some ground clearance with but may protect the tank a little! I'm soooo confused! Probably putting to much thought in to it as usual!

Hey, I'm new here too and I was wondering how much people have been towing or whatever with the bumpers that have hitches in them?

Mine has towed everything from a jetski to my present 1800 lb. tent trailer.
