Home made fishing rod racks? Ideas?

So i am in diar need of a rod rack because whenever my buddies want to go fishing, they want to take a ride in the jeep, go figure. However, i am not looking to spend a few hundo on a rack from quadratec or anywhere else on a catalog. I have heard of people creating racks out of pvc, and other materials available at home depot, but i dont have the right idea in mind as to how to create one. If anybody has done this themselves or knows of a place where i can find plans/instructions or an instructional video i would appreciate it greatly. thanks alot.

i would definitely like to see pics of that since that seems to be the most simple of the designs.

I just used a ratchet strap to attach it to the spare tire. But I also have a tool box on a metal frame in the hitch that I strap it to also. Then its not up that high.

Prior to picking up my rod rack off CL I just bolted PVC pipe to my tray. I had 4 pipes on it at one point. I still use it from time to time if I'm bringing more than 4 rods.

Here's another thread with a few ideas..

Fishing Rod Holder?

I just use bungie cords n strap em down to the roll cage. Simple, cheap and not much storage space needed.

I go surf fishing so I use the sand spike bungied to the roll bar just behind me. The only problem is the pole is 10' long so I need to watch out for trees the pole may hit.

I have also used Velcro straps. Dirt cheap.

I made one with some angle iron and pipe. I used steel rod to make a locking bar so that I could lock my rod and reels into the carrier so people couldn't walk off with my stuff. Works great and the angle allows me to just use an empty 2" receiver and bolt it on or bolt it to a rack in the receiver. Could be put anywhere on the jeep really. Cheap to make if you have a welder and it will last forever. Best part is truly the locking bar though.
