After you drill your first hole, it's all downhill from that point forward .

The Rugged Ridge states, "No drilling required."

Ahh, this is the hood lock that I use. Never had an issue with it and it's a "no drill" design.

Mine aren't perfectly lined up. I just pull the hood over till it lines up and it goes on. Mine have been on for well over 6 yeas and I've always done it that way. I didn't re-drill new holes. Have you tried to "persuade" them into the hole?

Do yourself a favor, take them off the jeep and throw them in the garbage can. I had those on my last TJ, they were a Bit#h to get lined up. I pulled on the hood like opcocrg said. The problem I had was getting them to stay locked. When they fail on the freeway.......

No persuading , they won't I pull hood either way and then they are crooked going in . Then that only go 1/2 way and won't lock . I tried washer under the rubber so the postes are angled and same thing . Ordered diff lock . Suppose I wasted 50$ , can't send back .

Smitty has to check my pics out "claim" they might reimburse . They have fax of reciept .

I can't remember what brand mine are (I seem to recall a blue package with a chrome horse head on it) but I didn't/don't have any issues with mine. I actually bought mine after my buddies CJ hood opened on him and he put the jeep in a ditch. My hood was lifting more than I was comfortable with on the drivers side because the rubber strap on my stock latch was rubbed halfway though from contact with the latch body. Mine has never given me the impression that it was loose or going to come unlatched.

I remeber reading somewhere that they needed to push the fenders to get the hole to line up and not the hood. I really liked the concept of these side hood locks but they seem like such a pain to use and install.

I've never used those locks but perhaps you could loosen the hood at the hinges and slightly move the hood one way or the other.

I have some....had to loosed the hood bolts at hinge to get them even close. They are a beoch to get on but work. The trick was adding a few washers to them to make one of them stick up a little higher....now I can get one on with an issue and slightly pull the other into the hole and lock them both. Only had for a couple of months and only opened the hood 2-3 times since then but they seem to work. However...with the washers installed they aren't as clean looking as the photos in this thread. Wish I had a better answer.

It's all good guys . Ya think they would sell something that works .
They did tell me on the phone since I wouldn't drill new holes . That I had to spread the hood out some retake pics before they could help me with refund .
I'm not sure I want to spread my hood . I'll sleep on it , cause I don't think that will work .
Yes that was smittybuilt warranty dep I called .

11252.04 Rugged Ridge Jeep Wrangler TJ Hood Lock Kit 1997-2006 (804314071875) | eBay

Sorry about all your troubles. I bought this cheap one off eBay when I bought my TJ, not as a heavy duty lock but more as a deterrent for would be thieves. I really wasn't expecting much, but this thing is great. Once it is unlocked (comes with two keys) unless you know the trick, it is a PIA to pull off. So not only does it prevent any normal strength human from opening the hood while locked, but even if a thieve manages to pick the lock, if he doesn't know what he is doing he is going to struggle with it for a few minutes before figuring how to pull it off. The employee at the state emissions inspection station was muttering all kinds of curse words trying to get it off - in his pride he rejected my offer for assistance. He just left the thing in the passenger's seat once the inspection was done.

For $13.44 this is good insurance!

I ended up using only one of two, on the battery side of the engine compartment. I just wanted some type of interference for the would be thief! Mine would not align and no way was I drilling a new hole in my fender!

Vodoo I took lead and called Tuffy products a month ago about building us a quality hood latch for our TJ's. The thread on JF can be found here, they started selling them last week. For the money there is not a better solution.
