How do you tell a TJ from a JK?

Not really asking HOW to tell in general, just curious if you see one passing what sticks out to you that its not a TJ? I look at the door handles.

Round parking/signal lights on the front of the JK vs. The rectangular ones on TJ.

Think the grill may be a bit more slanted too on the JK?

Easy to spot a JK from way off.. They are a lot bigger than the TJ,

Size, location of the blinkers/running lights, fog lights in the bumper. From the rear I look at the tail lights.

JKs are wider and have much bigger plastic-covered bumpers, but one of the most noticeable differences are the plastic "flenders" instead of metal front fenders with plastic flares.

The big ugly plastic fenders make it stand out like a sore thumb.

Also clear backup light is at the bottom of the tail light but on a tj clear portion at the top cause the red taillight part has to be at the bottom so it lights the license thru the window on the bottom

The hood is shorter where the latches are and the door handles are different... If the doors are on

I'm just going to assume you quoted me by accident because nothing in my post was "bashing" a JK. On the other hand, everything in my post was factual.

JK's have big plastic bumpers and fenders, and big mirrors and and some even have 4 doors. Actually I used to own one.

The fender flares and the wheels if they're stock are what REALLY stick out, but I agree everything about the JK give it away from a TJ.

Surprised no one said this already. Jk's, even half doors, have a squared off rear upper door/window. Earlier Jeeps are rounded.

More often than not, threads comparing current and previous Jeep models take wrong turns. Most of the time all it takes is a simple post of, what starts out as facts, can act as a seed to inspire people to turn things ugly. I decided a word to the wise was better than preemptively closing the thread.

windshield is far more angled back (aerodynamic) ....they look visably wider .... hard tops are more "boxy" looking .... grills are more "rounded" looking .... lights on sides of fenders are circular , instead of triangular .... jeep emblem on grill, hinge in middle of windshield instead of sides ... there are lots of differences .... its kinda hard to mistake one for the other ... IMHO .. I almost bought a jk .. but instead bought a civic and paid cash for the tj .... if the diesel jk ever comes out .. the hionda will be getting replaced ... jks are nice ... and much more comfortable and carlike(in a good way) .. biggest thing I don't like about a jk is the amount of electronics .... a bit confusing i'd imagine.

Plastic fenders and drivers who rarely wave back.
