How I detail a used car!!

I just bought a 2000 Sahara and the previous owner just hit the high spots when he cleaned it. I take off all the black things like the mirrors and door handles and gas filler bezel and taillights and license plate mount and spray them satin black. I wipe down the entire body with mineral spirits and wash it with soapy water. Then I wax the whole car with some good quality wax. I then rotate the tires by "x"ing the front and bringing the rears forward. That way every fouth time they end up where they came from. I check the brakes at that time. I take the throttle body off and clean it real good with cleaner and put it back on with a new gasket. I take the seats out and sampoo yhe carpet and suck out all the water with a shop vac. I scrub the top with softscrub with bleach and then flood it with water and treat wit with some good top dressing. It looks like a brand new Jeep and it took me about 6 hours. I just enjoy keeping a car looking as nice as it can be.

a couple tricks from when I worked at a body shop

clean the windows out in the sunlight. It exposes things you really cant see inside even with great lighting.

use a 1-2" paint brush with armor all to clean the ducts, vents, cracks, handles, etc... all the places inside that a rag cannot get into to.

race-glaze polishing compound absolutely rules.

WD-40 on a rag is great for cleaning hoses.

boiling hot water will remove a lot of carpet stains. (then scrub and shop-vac)

Leave the windows cracked over night after cleaning to help with the chemical smells inside.

a 5.00 can of rubberized undercoating will make the inside of your wheel wells dark black again and really set-off your paintjob.

I've only washed mine once. I remember how hard it was to clean the fender flares after the mud stays on them. I just say heck with it now and don't worry about it.......too much work to keep it clean. More fun to get it dirty.

:-/ Hubby used mine to pull a friend out of the mud yesterday, since his is in the shop. Buddy was high centered on a rut in an open area at our neighborhood ORV park.... Brought her home looking like this..... Looks worse now that it's dry, gonna be a long cold afternoon getting my girl clean again....

At least the top is up and the doors/windows in.... I haven't looked insider her yet, but she shouldn't be too bad..

OP, if you wanna come over and help, I have beer.....

I bought my 02 sahara, that had most likely just had all the stuff you just mentioned done to it, drove it home, took it apart, and went and did this to it.

Day I bought it....
