How much does the government say your jeep is worth?

So the wonderful state of Georgia adopted a new title ad valorem tax, where you pay a one time flat tax instead of an annual tax. Lady told me my jeep was worth $11,000... $800 tax... Which makes me wonder, what is the government valuation of other peoples jeeps? Cause they only said my 2002 f-150 was worth $4000... I've got an 04 Lj 100,000 miles

when you say "government" I presume you mean "state government" and/or "local government" .............over here in CT, when you buy any used vehicle, the state charges you a sales tax base on what THEY say it is worth not what you actually paid for it, and they get that figure from NADA and they modify it.

Our local governments in CT (tows and cities) assess you an annual property tax on your vehicle, again, not what you say it is worth but what they say it is worth and again they used NADA and then modify it.

It has been my experience being in CT for many years that both the State and the Towns cheat........they typically add 10% to what NADA gives as a value.....so as to maximize the levied taxation.

NC has the same thing. Registration and property tax has to be paid at the same time in order to renew your registration which is annually. My wife just got hers in the mail for her new JKUS and it was $270 for the tax. Somebodies gotta pay for the lavish vacations!

Yea I'm also in the state of Georgia and that's their new way of getting their money from private buyers! I remember the days where you just had a bill of sale that's says you paid $1! Now they use NADA and you have to pay 6.9% of the fair market value of your purchase to get your tag! All that money right off the bat! Hey but the tag will only be $20 every year from now on!

Work around But it ain't legal
Old friend of mine has been driving 2 silver Nissan Maximas. Both same year.
CT no longer requires a reg sticker on your plate, so he registers one, gets 2 plates puts one for each car. Goes to DMV and says the registration paper got lost and gets a copy, now puts one in each car, same for insurance, company issues 2 copies for some reason.
He has been doing this for awhile and got caught about a month ago because he left the car on the street during a parking ban. Cop calls in registration, then checked it against the windshield VIN. Busted!!
