To reverse a question elsewhere...what's the least amount of lift I can get away with and fit 33's under my rig? And how much of an effect will they have on power w/o a gear change?
That's something I'm really worried about. I just want a little bigger wheel/tire. Seems like to get one I have to lift, gear, then upgrade differentials and axles. I'm beginning to wonder if I just just stay with my reliable 31's.
With my Sport TJ I had a 2.5 lift and 33" tires. They rubbed the flares a little at full articulation. If I had kept that Jeep, the next mod was going to be flat flares. I had 3.73 gears and it was a 5 speed manual. The only time I noticed was when I was on the highway going up a hill, if it was steep and long enough I would have to down shift to 4th gear. It had dana 30/44 combo.
I've hardly seen anyone with under 4" running 33s on their rig. I'm getting ready to do a 4" lift with 1" spacers on top so I can run 33s. Look at Zone Offroad if your looking at getting a lift. That's what I'll be going with and I haven't heard a bad thing about them. 4" suspension kit $529 or 3" suspensions and 1.25" body lift $529. The combo kit seems to be pretty popular because it doesn't need the SYE or new driveshaft.
Rubbed a little at full flex?... I had a 2.5 SL with a 1.25 BL with 33's and at full flex the tires nearly tore the flares off and dented the metal part of the flare.. Now I'm running 3.5 RE springs with the 1.25 body. Got closer to 4.5" out of the springs so it's a little much but I love it
If you're not doing any offroading, you can put 31s with no lift, 33s with 2.5SL. If you are going offroading, i wouldn't suggest putting 33s with a 2.5SL unless you're doing a BL as well. I have a 2.5SL and 1.25BL with 33s and i have plenty of room now. I also cut my fenders to give me more room.
Since I have an lj could I gey buy with leaving the 3/4" spacers I have on it when I I stall the 2" BDS lift. Or would it not be worth it. I'm mostly worried about brake lines and I'm installing and OME rear track bar bracket with lift.
