How often does the oil get changed?

It seems like a basic question, I know. Most people assume the 3,000 mile rule. Some follow the guidelines in the owner's manual. Others just change when they want.

I saw this article on USAToday.com - Jiffy Lube changes 3,000-mile rule for oil changes - and just thought I'd make for some fun discussion on the board.

Fire away!

I change mine every 10K miles, but I run full synthetic and have to add about a quart every 1,000 miles due to my rear main seal leaking. Oh well, most of my mileage is highway mileage.

I use conventional and change every 3K; when you look for sales you can get 5+ quarts of oil and a quality filter for around $17 and since my 4 banger only takes 4 quarts I've always got one left over.

Its cheap enough, so I do it often because I enjoy doing it. Its just some good quality time with the Jeep.

I do enjoy changing the oil-but since I went to full synthetic I am changing every 5k. With dino I used to get valve noise about every 2500k miles. Now no valve noise even going to the 5k - gotta be better.

I do all my vehicles every 3k. Both oil and filter. Wally world has 5 qt jugs for 12.50 right now and I get oem filters for 4:50.

I only put about 3000 to 4,000 miles a year on my Jeep. I run Mobil 1 and change it and the filter in the Spring and Fall.

I shoot for 4000, but occasionally have gone up to 5000. My last two vehicles were pushing 200,000 with no issues on with regular oil. I run synth on the wife's pilot & its scheduled oil change is every 7500.

Dang I change mine too much lol. I'm with everyone else it gives me a good excuse to be under the jeep.

P.S. I hate jiffy lube! Every time I took my 97 their they tried to tell me I needed to change my PCV valve... TJ's don't have those lol so I don't believe jiffy lube!

Amen on changing it yourself...wife thinks I am nuts because I like it!!! A kid in the neighborhood, sons buddy, came by when I did it last time. He sat there and asked me 5 million questions...then he told me that his dad never changed their oil....

The satisfaction it brings getting so intimate with my sweetheart...

I actually changed mine after 262 miles last time LOL. Got sick of the rear main seal leak so it had to be done. Other than that weird occurrence about 3k
