How screwed am I?

Tonight I was tightening the bolts on my transfer case skid and the one closest to the front on the driver's side broke off and the end is in there pretty deep. What can I do to fix this? This question is actually overdue because the nut inside the frame rail on the passenger side closest to the rear stripped out when I put in a lift a month ago. Ive been going without that one this whole time. Now I'm missing one on both sides. I know this isnt safe. I need some help.

any advice is appreciated.

you will have to drill it out and then rethread it a size larger. big tip: start with a small drill bit, drill straight and then slowly increase drill bit size until you get the bad broken bolt out. then all you have to do is tap it and put in the larger bolt...take your time and use a powerful drill(one that plugs into a wall outlet) and metal drill bits dont fool around

If you only had the one side with the broken bolt you could get some easy out's and just back that broken bolt out and reuse the same hole. But with the other side being stripped out I am afraid that inglisleslie is correct and you will have to drill it out to a larger size. Worth getting someone to help that may have done it before. Good luck.

Hey guys, Thanks for your replies. This seems to be within my abilities. One question still remains though. Is there a nut welded inside there or is just the hole in the frame rail itself threaded? I ask this because on the passenger side, the remainder of the bolt is still there and its loose but something is still stopping it from coming out. It seems like what happened is there was a nut welded inside and the weld broke. Is this possible?

I was thinking there are nutcerts (sp?) up in there and that's exactly what your problem is....don't recall how to fix it though. Try searching for the answer...I think it's been covered before.
