How screwed is my friend?

Well me and a bunch of my friends went out for a drive last night. included with them was a buddy of mine who bought a TJ sport i beleave a few months ago. its a 2003 and from the looks of it it has the D44 in it. After i warned him about doing bunrouts in a jeep and such he was leaving a stop light and decides he wants to go and spin the tires. well he screwed somthing up. hes running mudders on it and after doing the burnout a couple mile down the road he was hearing a clunk noise whenever he took off from a dead stop and whenever he made a turn. I was thinking it was a U join but his jeep isant making any kind of vibrations or anything. Any ideas

Lol and they were egging me on to do a bunrout as well... i dident though.

Pull the diff cover. Maybe a broken tooth on one of the gears. The expensive lessons are the ones that stay with us the longest.

How big are his tires and does he have...or should I say HAD LSD?

Big tires + burnouts = busted shafts, bent C's, stripped spiders, messed up LSD, broken ball joints, bent tie rods, and the queen mother of them all....

Fried R&P.

Even small tires (30" and under) if they grab alot can tear sh*t up.

Don't do burnouts in a Jeep lol! That crap is hard on the transmission too.

don't overlook the u joint that fast, just because it isn't vibrating. check it for real, if you're unsure, unbolt the straps and really check it.

I busted one recently too that was vibration free. It made more of a metallic tick sound though, as opposed to a clunk.

But you never know till ya check it out.

Well, I'm impressed.

My Jeep wuldn't do a burnout if I slicked the tires with oil and set it's azz on fire!

You've got to get some RATO Bottles for that.

check the trans mount... idk if a jeep has enough torque to do it but i know on camaros they'll break if you rip it off the line alot and it will make a clunk when you start moving from a stop. broken teeth on the rear would make a clunk at any time you hit the gas in gear not only when you first start or in turns. trans mount is a cheap and easy fix so its worth a shot before he starts ripping into the rear.

Back when I had my Cobra, the youngins would often pull up along side me and holler "BURN 'EM!"
I'd grin evilly and yell back "You BUY 'em, and I'll burn 'em!"
That usually shut them up in a hurry.

is it bad that I really want to ?

stupid is as stupid does.

I've never gotten the obsession w/ burning off perfectly good tires....once in an old miata I did do-nots (those cars will do impressive donuts)...I had new wheels and tires waiting to go on it, so it was no biggie....but now I call them Do NOTS for a reason...they cost too much money.

What a hard lesson to learn that the Jeep is not a 1/4 miler.
