How to find out what gears I have (1J4FA39S86P703076)

My buddy has a jeep with VIN 1J4FA39S86P703076. Does he have a Dana 44 or 30 and what gears does he have. Thanks

If its a rubi, it has a 44 front and 4.10 gears, all other Wranglers have a 30 front and various gear ratios (4.10 if its a 4banger)

There is a tag on the rear diff that may say it between two of the bolts. It may have been removed though. I just took mine by the dealer and had them run the vin. Told me what tranny, gear ratio, and some other things. Took about 15 minutes.

He is mainly concerned with what gear ratio he has because he wants to up the tire size to a 31-32" tire and a 1-2" BL.

Give Chrysler a call and ask. They were able to look up my numbers for my 2004 or, if you have access to the jeep, jack up the front and spin the tire twice while counting how many times the driveshaft spins. That will give you your gear ratio also.

Also, yeah some jeeps have a D44 rear from the factory like mine. And he won't really have to worry about gearing until he goes 32"+

Look for the tag which is on both axles unless someone removed it. The below tag is indicating the axle has a 3.73 ratio by the "3 73" embossed into the steel tag. Caution that except for a Rubicon, the front and rear tags will be .01 different (3.73/3.74 etc.) from each other so don't be concerned if it says 3.74 etc.

By vin your buddy's Jeep is a 2006 wrangler X 4.0. That comes with a dana 30 front and dana 35 rear. Not sure about gear ratio but i'd assume 3.73

2000 might be too old for the jeep owners site but you can always try. If it's not too old they'll have your build sheet, warranty info stuff like that.
