how to swap in a 4.0 in a tj

is there anyone that knows what to do to swap in a 4.0 in place of a 2.5?
what i want to know is what ELSE has to be changed besides the engines. id like to start gathering up the stuff and would like to compile a list. i know,it'd
be cheaper to sell my jeep and buy a 4.0 model, but i like building stuff up! id sure like to have one of those dana 44's from mopar performance!

Well, you're going to need all of the engine's accessories, in case it doesn't come with them.........air intake, CPU and harness, etc. I don't know if you have an automatic tranny or a manual, but you MIGHT have to change bellhousings if you have the auto. I'm not sure on that one, though, you'll have to research it. Your best bet would be to buy a totaled Jeep with the 4.0L, use it for all of its applicable parts, then part the rest of it out on eBay. You'll make money in the long run, believe me.

If you have a ax5 then you will need to get a ax15 or nv3550. You will also need to change the input on the t case from 21spline to 23spline.

yeah that is the name of my thread when i did this, go read it in the yj section. go on ahead if you got the money, swap in something origional like a diesel. or go on ahead adn swap in a 350 or something, i did it and it isn't all too bad, go get a good used one out of a tj or cherokee, or even a late yj, you need everything so go on and get it, i got my tcase tranny and engine for 1100 with 100k on it. just pm me if you really are gonna do this and you need help, there are plenty of people on here who are gonna be willing to help you, jsut listen and do what they say, cause they have been doing this for awhile. good lucl

thanks,guys.
i figuired it would be better to get a wrecked vehicle, so i would have most things id need. i was thinking a wrec/non running cherokee, as they are more plentiful, and a whole bunch cheaper to buy!any years/options, i should look for? ive got a 97 tj,2.5l,5speed. i thought about the chevy v8, but i had quite a few problems with my cj-5/buick setup. plus i dont think i need that much power. a hemi would be nice, though!

If your going to be swapping out the drivetrain llike that then you should deffinatley look at getting a SM465 under there. I know its a GM trans but there is a company that makes them to bolt diretly in to the 4.0L and to any Jeep transfer case. Its a 4 spd manual tranny with a "granny" 1st gear. The ratio for the first gear is 6.55:1 so it makes it an amazing off road trans. Then if you get a np231 tcase from a cherokee or whatever you end up with they can make the trans to bolt right up. This is the swap I have wanted to do for a long time but just havent had the $$ for. PM if you want me to get you the website of that company.
