Ones anybody have any idea how I can convince my dad to let me buy some mirror brackets so that I can take off my half doors. He thinks that the half doors are just fine and give the same experience as no doors. I think not! He had half doors when he was a teen and had his jeep and loved them however I'm a little different and prefer no doors. Obviously he doesn't care. So if anybody could give me any ideas on how to convince him to let me get those mirror brackets to take off my doors would be fantastic!

I got my mom to let me buy them but my dad didn't want me taking the doors off. I also have half doors and my dad gave me the same thing your dad gave you. He said the have doors were enough. One day while he was at work my brother and I had to run some errands and we decided to take the doors off. So we did and we ended up back at the house the same time he got back from work and he was pissed. I didn't care and told him that I want to do it. He tried to guilt trip me and tell me I was going to die in an accident if I drove with the doors off. I told him thats my problem and now he doesn't care if I do it or not. So like others have said its better to ask for forgiveness than permission

I certainly don't condone going against parents wishes... How ever... It is posted several places inside the jeep. That the top and doors are for protection from the elements and are not to be relied on in the event of an accident... So doors or no doors... If an F-350 t-bones ya.... It's gonna hurt!!! But hey if your dad thinks those 2" thick 15lb doors are gonna keep ya alive let him. A good alternative would be some bestop soft doors. Still doors. But come off in an instant and store in the back for when ya wanna go doorless

Around me if some of (not all) the cops catch you without your doors on you get a ticket. I only take mine off at the off road park.

If it's for looks, then I'd look for a pair of soft half doors. Super light and easy to take off when you get down the road. Just throw them in the back behind the rear seat. These are what I had on my old YJ. I usually drove with them on..mostly for a place to rest my left arm. But when you want to go doorless it takes about 2 seconds to lift them off and place them in the back :) I've been searching craigslist daily for a pair for my TJ.

Your Jeep.
You bought it.
You pay for gas and insurance on it.
You pay your own room and board.

If all of the above is true, take your doors off

If not, listen to your dad until you are on your own.:)

I had a YJ back in 2000 that a drunk driver doing 70 mph T-bone'd me from behind while I was turning left. I had no doors and no top on at the time. While they had to remove pieces of his Monte Carlo from my thigh and my hip broke the center console, and my inner thigh snapped off the steering wheel. Granted I had tube steps that took a big brunt of the impact, but I walked away from it. If I had the doors on, it would have wrapped like tin foil over my leg I think. If dad is worried that much get some safari doors that have tunes that provide structure but are open at the same time. http://m.quadratec.com/products/?cn=Safari+Doors&kw=olympic+safari+doors
