how to tell if soft top is bent?

not sure if the top is bent or what. took the old top off a while back and put it back on fine(just the top). and one night went to close the top and the pass side header is not all the way forward and from that point on when the top goes on i have to pull the side bar and push down on the top for it to slide over the windshield frame. not sure if it was stepped on or if the top was not put back on right. but none of the bars look bent. what bar would cause it to do that?

You might try disconnecting the top and close the top with the frame only and see if both sides look symmetrical. That would rule out bent frame and may be just the top put on slightly crooked the last time you had it off. Also check for any loose bolts on the frame.

Make sure that the strap that runs from the first bow to the rear is not twisted. That's what it sounds like is happening. If it isn't flat, it will make it almost impossible to line up without excessive force.
