Question is.... How do you tell if the cat is wore out? I don't want to order exhaust and it not sound any better because the crappy sound is coming from the cat. I had rather just order new cat too. Is there any way to tell.
Will a system improve the sound of the 2.5 or is that just the way they are going to sound. I have heard 4 cylinders that people have tried to run straight pipe or glass packs on and to me they sound worse. I don't mind a low rumble but nothing loud.

I needed a new one when he got hit out on hwy. I had him stuffed and mounted with that 'deer in the headlights' look on his face...He's been source of endless laffs ever since I'll just keep him and forego a new one.
I have a'04 TJ that because of my stupidity (TJs don't like premium fuel) started eating cats.....replaced the factory cat (out of warranty) and within 6 months no power couldn't get RPMs above 3K, replaced second cat (first aftermarket) and within 6 months same thing again.
However during the time in between I found out about this Forum, and premium fuel, and the shop got tired of replacing the Cat so ordered a "High Flow" cat and installed under warranty.
That was about 18 months or 2 years ago, this cat still working great, plenty of power, no complaints.
Oh and just for everyone's info....LIL RED never threw a code for the cat.
