HOWTO: Super Cheap Security System

I'm afraid I can't take credit for this one...found it in a magazine once...

Cost: <$5.00 (plus shipping)
Item: Master Lock model 517D

Here's the scoop...

Pick up one of these Master Locks. They are the old school u-bolt/shackle locks that most of us had for our bikes way back when.

Here's the lock:

Take the u-bolt part and place it over your clutch and brake pedals:

Then push the lock side onto the u-bolt. it'll have enuf space to click once or twice:

There you have it...

When you try and press either the brake or clutch the other goes down with it.

Slick, eh?

Pull the ASD relay out of the power distribution center, no thief will be able to start it with that gone. Free.

Or wire a hidden on-off switch into the ASD's control wire.

I like the lock idea, I do have an auto though. I have the master lock starter sentry and a hidden kill switch, but this would work as a good "visual" deterrant also.

And it would take a thief seconds to get it off. I'd rather pull the ASD relay for free than trust my Jeep to a cheap non-hardened bicycle lock.

How about a target laying on the seat with 3 holes in the 10 ring, hand labeled "200 yards, moonlight, wind 15"?

Wire up a kill switch, you can even use one of the switches on the dash. Jeeps are just a lot easier to get into than most other cars, it just gets down to how much of a pain you want to go threw to protect it. If you really want to make sure it's not going to go anywhere carry a big chain in the back and run the chain threw your wheel and threw your bumper, nobody is going to drive it with the chain on it and the guy that's going to rip it off will see it and your locks and dash wont be smashed in, but it's a pain to crawl under your Jeep every day to lock it out.

Any of the ideas that people have listed will help, and any combination of 2 or 3 of them will help even more.

I wired up a switch for my fuel pump. Saved me twice so far. Couple of busted door locks and ignitions, but i still have my jeep.
