Hey guys, I'm new to this jeep life lol. But I just got a 97 TJ 4.0L with a ton of mods... She needed some work and she is up and running now. But the only problem I can't figure out is when I drive her, it feels like sometimes I'm hydroplaning and I'll slow down, it only does it sometimes. And I'm on dry road, would love some help. Thanks!

lol hard to explain, like if I hit even the slightest bump the car will start like swerving from side to side, all I'll have to do is tap the breaks or slow down a bit and it will stop then I'll just continue driving like nothing happened

Twitchy unstable steering? That is normally nothing more than the front-end is out of alignment. Your toe-in and/or your caster angles need to be adjusted.

Yes I know you didn't really mean hydroplaning, but that was a good way to describe the problem...

ohh the lovely case of death wobble. try an alignment and get the shop to inspect your front end. balljoints, tire rod ends, track bar, pitman arm, (which is in your steering system)

(note, no need to start multiple threads then http://www.wranglerforum.com/f210/hydroplaining-problem-814121.html you get mixed answers)

As I indicated in the other thread, first we need details on you suspension. Don't run out an get an alignment. The only adjustment is the toe and you can do that yourself but you MAY have more going on.

My 01 was doing the same thing after the lift. Hit a bump and it wants to go side to side. The toe was out over an inch. Brought it back to 1/8 inch toe in myself in my driveway and no problems now. Easy adjustment to do.

1/16" to 1/8" is good for toe-in.

Here's a quick writeup on adjusting it... Basic Jeep Front End Alignment

While measuring between the tires can be done, I now set my toe-in using a pair of aluminum square tubes as shown below. They are easier to produce accurate and more repeatable measurements from. Just mark the tubes at points equal to your tire diameter and measure between them front and rear so the fronts of the tires are 1/16" to no more than 1/8" closer together than they are in the rear.
