I Don't Understand Odd Speaker Arrangement, But I Like It

For whatever reason, Jeep decided to place ONE additional speaker on the inside of the center console. But, that 1 speaker is ONLY on the driver's side of the console.

How cool is that?

Too bad that half of the speaker is buried below the seat.

My wife thinks this post is funny.
She says that maybe my butt needs to hear the music, too.

That speaker is actually the subwoofer. Not the best in the world but works for me

Definitely an odd speaker placement. Can't be much of a sub, being placed there?

I thought it was a fairly innovative use of space by Jeep. There's nowhere else to put one without making the interior even more useless than it already is!

"So you'd feel the thump in your tush."

Straight from the salesman's, er, mouth, when I bought a new 01 Sahara.

its on par with the rest of the stock audio system

its not the placement, its the lack of size and power

That's your subwoofer. Most installations only have one. Deep bass isn't directional, so placement isn't that critical (especially for the qualiy of the oem system).

The stereo system in my TJ is a SONY XPLOD MEX-BT2600. The speaker pods are also SONY.

I have no idea of what the OEM stereo was.
According to my build sheet, it says:

RAAC All Radio Equipped Vehicles
RBKS AM/FM Compact Disc Radio w/Chgr Ctrl
RCUS 7 Speakers Inc Subwoofer/Tweeters

Whatever that means.

7 Speakers?
I only count 5.

The 1 in the dash (by the driver's door), the 1 in the dash (by the passenger's door), the 2 in the speaker pods, and the 1 by my butt (in the console).

In your dash you have four speakers actually. Those "pods" have the 4" speaker then a smaller tweeter above them. then the two in the soundbar and the sub

Except inside the back seat. I just finished my back seat box build with 2 8" subs and it sounds pretty darn good.
As for the crap fronts I put two 6 x 3" pezio horns from a concert type system and I have all the highs I could ever want! The mids are the pods and so the system sounds great for no room loss in a Jeep! Pluss it looks totally stock with no visible speakers or wires.

the stock speakers in the 7-speaker OEM system are Infinity. The system works well in factory form...IMHO....
