I have a concern about the 4.0 tb on a 2.5 - sort of urgent

Hey guys,

i found a really cheap TB from a 4.0 XJ but I have to decide tomorrow whether i am taking it or not.

i have been reading a lot but i cant seem to find a definite answer to my question.

Will an XJ 4.0 throttle body be a direct bolt in on a 2.5L 1997 TJ?

Or if anyone can tell me what throttle bodies will be a DIRECT bolt in for a 4 banger 97 TJ, I will only get one that you can pop on, swap the sensors and go.

I keep reading different things and most of the posts I found are for the YJ's. TJ's, from what i understood, are a bit different, or am I wrong?

PLEASE HELP

THANK YOU!!!!

to answer your question I just did it , mine came off a late model cherokee ( believe thats an xj) all i had to do was install a spacer and a jet tuner , but my cat is gutted as well ....also the side piece where the iac valve goes needs to be swapped, the one of your 2.5 t.b. to it and it will bolt up no prob also you might wanna swap those just in case anyways cuz mine shut down on me on the highway and the cel came on (the guy from the offroad shop swapped his, cleared his iac code, and his purrs like a kitten ). you ll need tamper proof bits to change that piece I was talkin about it should say 2.5 on it thats all you need to bolt that 4.0 t.b on ur jeep

Countryboy, several questions. What kind of spacer is needed? Where do you get it? Same questions for the Jet tuner? Are you saying you re-use the IAC from the 2.5 but have to swap the IAC side piece from the 4.0 L to the 2.5 engine? IF you were to now buy a Cold Air Intake system, would you have to buy one for the 4.0 rather than a 2.5L? With this mod, did you notice an increase in power ? Gas mileage? What actually caused the CEL and the stalling?

i used a 60mm t.b. spacer , 1 inch tall , yes i am saying to re use the iac housing b/c, mine was doing all the popping backfiring and stalling plus the cel was on . i changed the housing and she idles like she is supposed , noticed a lot more power but havent exactly started crunching numbers for fuel consumption.... sorry about that . If i was to buy a cold air system i would run the one from spectre performance , b/c , it goes into the fresh air box in the cowl , for "true" cold air and not just mass air . to answer your question about the code I was told it was b/c, of the difference in iac housings caused the difference in flow which triggered the sensor .... thats my understanding the jet tuner is a stage 2 plug in chip that just plugs right into your pcm its easy peasy , also if you have the 2.5 you will have to rob your sensors of your old t.b. ....hope this helps , pm if you have any further questions , good luck and happy wheeling !!!!
