I keep finding surprises in my new (used) jeep.

Two weeks now into being a first-time Jeep owner with a 1998 TJ 4.0L. I keep finding more aftermarket performance upgrades in the engine compartment.

I found a tuner chip that would plug into the OBDII connection. I forget the brand but what I was reading was saying it was cheap and no good. It got tossed.

The obvious items that jump out are the Griffin Radiator and the AirRaid Filter/Intake.

But a little more hunting has revealed an Accel 300+

and a PowerRaid Throttle Body Spacer.

Should I consider myself lucky?

Wont even both on where this thread is going but I found some weed under the carpet in my LJ hahaha... It was owned by a chick in Fla who lifted it 6" and put 38x15.50 TSLs who also apparently smokes good pot hahaha. Glad I pulled the carpet though. Other than that found some checks, change and typical stuff

There was a story on the news here a few years ago where a guy bought a corvette at a government auction. The corvette had been taken in a drug bust. Long story short he bought the car to restore it. In the process he found a bag with $7000 cash in it. He notified the police and initially they said the money was theirs. After a few days the police called him and told him it was their responsibility to get everything out of the car before the sale. He had bought the corvette as is and they gave him the money back. He said he had been restoring cars for years and it was the first one he had ever had that paid for its own restoration.

I don't have a CAI on my Jeep but I put one in my Focus a couple years back. The only performance gain I saw was a slight one once I get it up above 4500 rpms. I don't pay attention to the mpg in that thing at all.

Although it did make it sound a lot better. I was flirting with getting one for the Jeep, but decided against it.

Yeah, that'd be my luck. Have some huge stash hidden in a car that I don't know about and then do something like try and cross the border.

I worked with a guy at a warehouse a few years back who bought a car from a used car dealership. Apparently they didn't clean the thing out very well. He found a .357 under the driver side seat.

You guys are making me nervous now. I'm a teacher and they regularly bring the drug dogs on campus to sniff out vehicles and what not! It'd really suck to lose your job bc of a used car you bought having a stash or a gun in it! I'm going to go pull apart the dash now. Lol jk

Yep. They charge out the butt for tires. One of the most costly "first" upgrades you can do. And have to keep doing. Argh...

You will find that this rig will bring the tinkerer in you out. If you don't own a lot of tools - you will. If you do - you will buy more, and of a much higher quality.

You will waste untold amounts of "disposable income" on stuff you never knew you needed. Or wanted. Or whatever.

It is a sick, twisting of your reality, your perspective, your priorities.

But the Jeep disease pretty much kicks ass, so start posting pics of your TJ and filling us in on all about the stuff you have done to it, are doing to it, or al the stuff you will one day do to it.

Post up your questions, your complaints, your frustrations. We all are great listeners. We all share this horrible disease.

Welcome, brother.

BAHAHAHA!!! :beerdrinking:

I was on a Tacoma forum a few years back. In both 1st and 2nd gen Tacomas mutliple people did dyno testing with and without CAI's, and a couple even did dyno tests with no intake at all (no restriction) and found that, in all cases, the only thing you get more of is dirt in your oil.

The simple way to put it is, port out intake and exhaust, get bigger headers and exhaust, and you may benefit from less restricted airflow from the intake.
