Talking I know...this sounds ridiculous...

But I just got my 2" BB lift installed about 10 days ago AND...
I have since gone through 3 tanks of gas (unfortunately this is normal for me). AND...these last 3 tanks, since the lift, my MPG has increased from a 15.6 avg mpg to 17.1 mpg.

After the first tank I thought it was an anomaly. Then the second tanks got even better, and now the third time in a row. I don't know what to make of this. I thought surely a lift would DECREASE my mpg due to increased wind resistance as I've always been told. NE body else experienced this or have an explanation (not that im complaining of course).

I think your jeep is thanking you for giving it the lift.

Agreed!

This could get ugly (for my wallet) if my jeep continues to thank me for all of my mods!!!

Not exactly sure. My build sheet says 3.73 but I'm not so sure I trust that since it also claims I have a 19 gal fuel tank.

I'm running about 2700/2800 rpm @ 65mph in 4th gear (manual) and 2100/2200 in 5th with 31x10.50 BFG T/A's.

Are you sure you have not revised your driving habits a little bit due to the increased elevation? Most likely you are a little lighter on the skinny pedal in the turns.

Since I lifted mine I'm much more conservative in my driving especially going into the high speed turns....Don't want to flip her....

(I'm still working on those pictures)..

I getcha, but actually, I think I'm a little more agressive b/c the shocks I put on are much tighter and feels a lot more comfortable in turns and on the hwy than the stock ones.

Not to throw a wet towel on a good mpg thread, but you have oversized tires right. Is your speedo gear sized correctly? Oh.........thats a wet towel!

He has had the same size tires before he put the lift on. The tire size never changed. Your Jeep just loves you more now.

I think I'm going with this explanation .

Correct. Same tires as pre-lift.

I've run the thing damn near dry (manual says the fuel warning lamp activates when 2 gals left in tank) so ran it about 28 miles after the light came on. Then filled it up and couldn't even break the 16 gal mark. Just like my 98 TJ with the 15 gal tank.

It's clearly a conspiracy by the fossil fuel industry.

Wouldn't it work the other way? The speedometer is reading the axle turns. With larger tires, you would cover more distance per turn. Thus, the speedometer would underestimate the distance.

Another thing that will help with your gas mileage is (MOA) Motor Oil Additive.....it's made by K&B i think...............you put it in every oil change........i just started using it at 36,000 miles and i already see a difference in the first can, although it is quite expensive.

I think you're right. I put larger tires on and didn't change the speedo gear, and I'm doing about 5 mph faster at 60 on my speedo

I think your right.

However, when i first got this TJ I swithced out the 30's and threw on my BFG 31's and noticed virtually no difference in rpms at a given speed. The speedo was off barely 1-2 mph, best I could tell.

Very interesting thought...I just changed my oil and went with a synthetic blend just days before I added the BB. Hmmm.

Because the speedometer doesn't know you have bigger tires - that ratio (between the tach and the speedometer) isn't going to change because of tires. The only way you could really check it is with an independent measure of the speed - ie. a GPS in your car.

There is noticable difference with synthetic vs regular oil. My old car.. with synthetic it would burn out when shifting on 2nd easily with full tank of gas. After i switched back to regular oil it would have hard time and would only burn out with half/low tank of gas. Never bothered to see mpg since it got like +25 mpg so i never bothered looking. Just filled up whenever is empty.. now its on a regular basis thanks to my TJ.
