Well my factory top finally shrink and started ripping at the stitches. So its time to replace it. Id like to know how many use the Bestop trektop Nx with the flip sun roof? Ive heard they can be a pain at first to get on. I think i totally have to remove my factory frame since its frameless. Are they worth the price since i saw its only a couple years warranty? I know they fold back and the windows come out....... am i right that it really cant be put all the way down? Bit pricy worth the money and does anyone know the cheapest place to get them?
Ooooops one more question. Whats the difference between Black diamond and Denim? Which is closer to the original top? Or better yet ive got sail cloth upper doors.... which is closer to them? Is one heavier made than the other?
You don't actually really need a new soft top of its just ripping at the stitches. Simply get a needle and thread and resew the ripping one section at a time. Currently doing this with mine right now.
You can take the NX off, but the whole thing has to come off. It won't just fold back like the OEM top. However, you can get 95% topless with little work by taking the windows out, rolling the top from back to the sound bar, and flipping the sun rider up on top of that. So you have a bit of top covering the sound bar but otherwise topless. Here is a video a WF member made explaining it. Its for JKs but the TJ should be similar https://youtu.be/ppVAXnYsQ-g
Rolling that back up under the sunrider is an incredibly obvious option that I hadn't even considered yet. The only reason I was thinking about the Supertop NX was because it could fold back, but now that I've been enlightened, I'm 100% Trektop NX now.
I use the Trektop NX currently. It does not fold down completely, but I use mine as a safari top almost exclusively. I don't use the sunrider feature because it is kind of a pain. Since it sounds like you have the factory door surrounds, I recommend taking a look at Softopper. IMO, it is a more versatile top, and definitely easier to put on and remove completely in just a short amount of time. And you can store the whole top in your jeep if you remove it completely...can't do that easily with the NX.
I just put my new trektop nx on this past weekend.. it was a little over 60 degrees had no issues getting it on the first time. And I like it better then the original top that was on there.. I never liked how it folded down in the back..
If I want the top off I want it off.. and now if it's a nice day and I'm going to lunch I just flip it open over my head.. takes what maybe a whole minute if that
Dont think restitching is practical.... its really shrink. It takes two people to pull it and put the rear corners on now. This sun in Fl is a killer. Cant complain about it.... its been on a LONG time. Just curious...... how often do these tops need replacing? I do have the headers, but the NX comes with them and supposed to be COMPLETE ready to install. Frankly, i like the sun roof idea, id use it more and not have to take the top down to enjoy a quick ride. Also we get rain about every afternoon during the summer months. Id like to be able to button it up faster. I believe im cool with it not coming completely off. Thanks on the difference between the two colors. Looks like black diamond.
They arent cheap are they....... about $650 and appears to be a fixed price, anyone got a better deal? If so, pass me a contact number. Id like to change it out before the weather gets unbearable.
They're a great top. Had mine a few years now. Being in FL it shouldn't be much of an issue on the 1st install. Sunrider feature is nice to have, but I rarely use it. Most of the summer I just run safari.
Quadratec has them under 600 & you can most likely get free shipping. Also if you're on the fence you could just get a bestop replacement for about the same price that uses factory hardware. Either way you can't go wrong.
I really like my trektop NX!!! I have an unlimited and it really makes it look better, the fastback look is great. I never remove the total top, I just remove the windows and run the safari top. I installed mine on a warm day with no problems just take your time with the zippers. The Black Diamond is used on newer Jeeps it has a blacker look. I have a 2006 so I got the Black Diamond top.
Morris..... i do have a question. I have these upper door.... with sliding windows. I notice in the video they come with door headers that need to be changed. Will the Trextops NX still fit my jeep? Ive got an 04 TJ X.
If so send me a PM with a price.... im interested. Id like to get them on before the rain starts here in Fl. I love that you are in FL.... but, that also means i pay state tax on um. BUT.... we need to support our state.... because i sure dont want them to go to a state taxes. One of the reasons im here.
Just read on your site that my doors are black diamond..... so i guess i have that question answered.
i just ordered a new Bestop Sailcloth in black with upper door skins from Morris 4x4.....they were the cheapest i could find after much searching. Price was 759 and Bestop is running a rebate offer until June on qualifying tops. 100 mail in rebate on mine.
I read somewhere that they say you cant go over 45 mph with the top open. Never had a bikini top is it unsafe to run on a 70 mph hwy? Also.... the super top, does it fold back differently? looks like it folds back then folds forward and ties down unlike the NX that one piece. Morris..... PM me the promo code please. Id like to have it all together before i call you guys. I watched the videos on utube one was better than the others it showed some tricks on how to get it on the first time. Looks like something i can do myself. You know no one mentioned how long it takes to take all the OE stuff off. I assume most of you keep your frame. How much more complicated is the more expensive super top.... kind of the best of both worlds. How long does an after market top last now days? I see it has a 2 yr warranty.... hopefully its well beyond that.
They said it was in the instructions...... thanks Neil. Sure didnt make sense. Im on hold until i hear from MORRIS. Ive sent a few PMs with no reply yet on the promo code. Once i get that ill give um a call.
Bestop (the OE manufacturer of all of Jeep's soft tops) has a Supertop NX kit that includes everything needed including the frame, door surrounds, etc. that works really well. Click on Bestop Supertop NX Kit to see it.
It also includes the upgraded Sailcloth fabric which is heavier to reduce flapping which makes the interior noticeably quieter.
That was a little confusing but... Pavement Ends is Bestop's entry level product which uses thinner lower quality fabrics and materials designed to compete with the cheap imports like from Smittybilt. The Supertop NX comes with the far superior/heavier/quieter Sailcloth fabric.
ha I get carried away sometimes with my sentences thanks for the info
