I've got a 2003 Wrangler X with a Yakima Bighorn 4 bike rack on it. I'd like to be able to lower the rack and access the back. Unfortunately, my spare is about an inch too low. I thought I could perhaps raise the carrier, but there's not enough metal to drill another hole.
I don't want to spend a ton of money. If someone sees a way to make this work
I'd appreciate the feedback...
I'm really trying to get the hang of the 'Jeep wave'. But between texting, my latte and shifting, my hands are kind of full...
My idea would be to remove, if it's possible, the plastic (I think?) cap, in the second picture from your first post. Then cut the square tube down just enough to clear the tire. Then replace the cap and fold the carrier back to the upright position and re-drill a new hole for the pin. It's hard to see if it would work from just looking at pictures, but maybe?
I almost forgot, Elaine Dickinson: There's no reason to become alarmed, and we hope you'll enjoy the rest of your flight. By the way, is there anyone on board who knows how to fly a plane?
