I need help picking out 6.5 inch speakers in roll bar

Anyone have 6.5 inch speakers in roll bar? I got the brackets from Nalin mfg. to put the 5.25 in into dash, now i need some strong 6.5 in for roll bar. I have a 100 watt 4 channel amp and want something decent. I have read mixed reviews on different brands, someone said the polk audio had a broken terminal after a week? Shame, cause i like that brand. I would like some decent bass, 50 hz or lower? anyhow.... looking to spend < $100 any ideas appreciated.

Polk is pretty high quality for the price point in the DB series, and the Momo's are very nice also in my opinion. I have never had an issue with any of their speakers with the exception of the refurbs - they don't do a very good quality inspection on refurbs, just enough to check that it works and re ship. So buy them new! Stay away from the ebay deals and basically anyone that is not a licensed dealer for them.

I've had kickers, yes. I have the 4x6 kickers now in the dash, they were ok, i just got this amp from hell that is only turned up to about 25% gain so it won't rip the speakers apart. I need some beefy 6.5 inch for roll bar. Thanks for any advice, please keep it coming ! also those db polks were the ones i was looking at jwm1986

How about some 8" coaxial speakers? Much better bass response than a 6.5". They fit quite well actually. With a little work. I have the Soundstream Tarantula's in there. We also have done the Memphis M-Class in there too.

That is awesome dr destructo ! I never thought of that, yes you are right, of course, I would have more bass. I don't trust myself to go cutting holes upside down though. I'm not real good with power tools (i'm ok, just not the best)
I've never seen that before.

To make the 8's fit you will have to trim the opening a little. Then you will have to make a 3/4" mdf spacer ring to get the extra depth. Take the soundbar down, it will take 2 minutes. Unzip the cover. Mark the material that needs cut. Snips work well, but a short metal blade on a jigsaw will work too. Mount the ring to the metal. Zip up the cover(carefully, it really tight). Done! Looks good, and sounds better than any 6.5" could ever sound, atleast in the bass extension anyway. Took about an hour.

ok dr destructo, i will look at this, but it may be over my head. I'm not sure where my jig saw is, haven't seen it in a while, so that tells you right there im not that good with the tools. I have some, yes, just not real good with em. i will take it apart a little though, i like that, and i will look, /i can't make my own spacer though ! I will see if i can buy one, i'm sure i can find something?

that was me.
I've got them working again, but I have had to re-solder it twice now. It was not a re-man. My problem was I bought them over the winter b/c they were hella on sale, then waited 6 months to install them. Even tho they were brand new out of the box it was too long a time after purchase to return them. So now I'm stuck.

On the plus side they sound great when they're actually working. I would like to try 8s tho for added bass.

And seriously, it takes less than a minute to take off your soundbar with a power driver.

I want to thank everyone as usual for all the advice. I ordered some 6.5 in for the roll bar, and I'm getting a small bazooka tube for bass in the back.

get a head unit and 2 4 channel amps. (assuming u have 2 speakers in dash as well) 8 total.
i can post pics of my setup. i have the 2 speaker soundbar with alpine 6.5's, a 10in sub in the center console, and 2 6.5's in the dash. alpine head unit, alpine sub amp, lightning audio 2 channel amp powering the sound bar.

There are several ways you can achieve what you want....the easiest is a single 4 channel amp. It will run both the dash speakers and your sound bar. If you wanted to spend a little more, you can get a 5 channel one and run a sub too

How did you fit 6.5 in the dash? I'm running 5.25 and it's a tight fit. I also have another set of 5.25 in the kick panels. And some more in the sound bar. Gunna upgrade to 6.5 there but currently sounds awesome so I'm in no rush. I also have a 10" sub in the truck and everything's powered by a 4ch. Infinity sub. All the speakers and sub are kicker audio

Good for you. a subwoofer will ALWAYS out perform mid bass drivers for bass

Better idea:

Get yourself some wakeboard tower speakers and throw them on the horizontal part (rear) of your rollbar, aim them at the driver / passenger seats, and BAM! loud as fuck speaker set-up designed to work in an open air environment.

It's what I'm doing in the next couple of months.

I've got Rockford Fosgate (SP) front and rear with a Pioneer CD player. Couldnt tell you what size speakers other than Stock replacement. Never had a problem with them. Good all around speaker system IMO. I've been running this in my 97 TJ shortly after I got it in 2006. I need to upgrade the radio. Probably the speakers as well. I'm sure there have been bigger and better upgrades for those kind of replacement speakers.
