So I have about 8000 for a used jeep and am searching online for one. I found a 1998 wrangler se 4 cylinder with 115000 miles on it. Is this a good buy or would I end up pumping a lot of money into it after I buy it? Also if you have any pointers for buying a jeep that would be great
I see rust on the wheel. Check the frame and under side. If you see rust run the other way!! You would not believe the work it takes to repair rust. BTW in good shape it is worth about 6K at most. Good luck...
Jeeps in my area go far a lot. My 2000 sport 5 speed 4.0 with 103k miles was priced at $9900. But the 4 cylinders go for WAY WAY less. A 2000 SE goes for about 6K. I think you should get one with a 4.0.
2000 solar yellow 4.0 sport 3" BDS, 1.25" JKS body lift, 1" Zone motor lift, JKS quicker disconnects, 33x10.5 BFG KM2 on black american racing wheels. D44 rear.
Don't jump too quick . take your time and find the best one for your money.
i would not spend 8k on the one you are looking at.
a 4.0 is what you will really want in the end.
and what the guys did not mention is that you could spend 20k on one and you will
still throw more money at it making it YOURS...it's part of what we mean when we say it's a Jeep thing and you would not understand
and be warned once you own a Jeep nothing else will do.
It's a nice looking Jeep.... but I'm with the other guys here in thinking you can do better for your money? I bought a 92YJ 2.5 4cl 190K miles, with a snowplow for $2,200 and a 99TJ 4.0 6cl 130K miles, for $5,000. Check the frame for rust!!
Definately suggest the 4.0 if you want power.... Also - do you really want an automatic? Not knocking those who prefer...but thats half the fun of a Jeep!
Keep looking.... personally think private sales are better deals, but use caution wherever you buy! I would think you could find a good deal and still have dollars left over to make it yours.
I named my Jeep after my wife cause even though it's old, a bit dinged up, and makes a lot of noise --- when the top is off it still makes me smile.
