Idler Pulley

Had the loud squealing noise when accelerating, took it to the mechanic, says I need a new idler pulley and belt. $200 out the door, is that a good price?

You should be able to change that in a parking lot or side of the road

Wow, I got the good quality belt and the idler pully out the door under $50.00 from Carquest. Should not take the mechanics longer than ten to fifteen minutes to change. Half hour if things give 'em trouble. (Like the power steering pump bolts being a pain in the rear sometimes if they are rusty) You should be in and out under $100.00 IMO

I mention the power steering pump because on mine anyways, thats where the tension is controled for the belt.

Good quality belt and the idler pully cost is about $60.00 and about 10 minutes work.
The mechanic needs to make a payment on his Porsche.

you got ripped off. you can do all of that yourself. i got a new serpentine belt from pep boys for $23 and replaced it in maybe 10 minutes, and then my idler pulley was loose so i went to advanced auto and got a new one for $21 and replaced that in like 2 minutes.

agreed guys $200 is too much, so I decided to do it myself since my buddy will let me use his garage.

I call pepboys to buy the parts that I had already looked up online belt- $32, Pulley- $17.

out of curiosity I ask him for an estimate, the guy then says parts= $85 and 1 1/2 hours work = $279.00 total

hahaha people are nuts

Damn that's why I try and do everything on my own since most mechanics charge a fortune for labor and overcharge for parts, good luck
