:( I'm afraid the time may be near...

...the expense of fueling the TJ has outweighed the satisfaction and joy of ownership. Well, not really, that's not possible. But the dang gas is killing me and I think I'm going to look into selling/trading it.:zap:

My commute is costing me over $20/day and don't have the time, (and thanks to the freakin gas), don't have the money to enjoy it like it deserves. I hit the wall when I left work today. I had put $35 in the tank when I left work yesterday. Drove straight home. Then drove straight to work this AM. When I got in this afternoon and cranked her up...ding! Low fuel light:doh: THIRTY FIVE FREAKIN DOLLARS TO GO HOME AND WORK IN LESS THAN 24 HRS. That's just straight up BS.

Keep my jeep in your prayers as we go down this dark journey toward the possibility of non-jeepedness in the coming days.:(

I'm kind of in the same boat right now... :(

I'm thinking about the money being spent on it in the future vs street-ability that it might retain. With the mods that I'd like to perform, it will just be a toy and I wouldn't be able to afford another vehicle... especially if I start breaking stuff.

Plus if I move to Phoenix when I want to, a car would be a better option. I feel sick.

BTW - this isn't a gas related issue, just practicality.

Sick indeed. This is my 2nd TJ and 4th Jeep. I've had many, many vehicles in my 35 years (actually only the last 17). All others were full size trucks, but none were like my TJ's and XJ's. I was sad to see my first XJ go even though it was mostly stock. Wasn't too bad selling my 98 TJ only b/c I was getting into this 04. That was less than 2 yrs ago and fuel cost wasn't even on the radar. Hell, I had a F150 Supercrew 5.4L and Explorer 4.6L next to the 04 TJ in the driveway and didn't think twice about it. Didn't bother me much to see either of those go. But, this 04 has my pride, sweat, a little blood, and alot of wallet, permanently attached to it. All mods were done by me and no one else. I have almost as many pics of it as my 3YO son:rolleyes:. This one is going to really bother me if it happens. :(

I've been spoiled this semester. I didn't have to work so my total commute was 30 miles a week. That didn't hurt so bad with gas. It's going to get hairy this summer though. If I end up with the internship I want, I'll be commuting 53 miles EACH WAY. Ouch. I'm way too attached to my Jeep to get rid of it. I can't do it. Not unless it was for a four door unlimited with Nav. (Car seats aren't very convenient in a regular X model.)

Dont the maximas have CVT trannies though? I rather get that instead of the regular auto. It gets better mpg because when accelerating slower, it keeps the engine at best mpg level and also for best acceleration when needed it keeps the engine at max power and at last smooth ride WITHOUT any shifting.

If ever get a car with an auto tranny it will have a cvt in it.

the other day i checked out a caliper rallye edt..

those puppies are sweet for being fully loaded and 22k..

with the 2.99 gas for 3 yrs/36k miles.. and my dads chrysler greenslip.. that baby would be one sweet ride for a dd..

it gets like 25-30 mpg i believe

heh.. that smart car looks built for asian people..

and dang how do they get their cars out of the parking spots?

looks dang near bumper to bumper

Thats not true... you should she crash test footage of the SMART Car. The US's test center for vehicle safety rated the Smart Car "very well" in all crash test just recently. I wouldn't mind having a Smart, but I'd have to convert it to a Smartuki. :D

trip.. its soo small that the airbag would kill you when it deployed.. plus with all the big @$$ trucks in america.. if you were hit by one, itd just run right over you..

ill stick with my jeep anyday.. i feel safer in it than any other car my family owns..

heck for the cost of one of those cars.. you could drop a 4 cyl diesel into your jeep.. didnt a guy on the forum do that and gets like 30 mpg

ive been tboned buy my neighbor going 35 mph..

funny thing is i never fixed where he hit me, well i did get a tiny dent in my door that the guy at the body shop popped out for me for $20.. ill take pics of it tomorrow.. we were on ice so i think thats why it didnt damage as much.. i didnt have much traction so my jeep moved with his truck.

he hit me with an old 98 silverado.. he did break my factory side step tho.. wish i would of had rocker rails on the side.. would f'd his shit up more than it did..

ive had the front fender of my jeep ran into also at about 40 mph.. it only bend the fender, and the fender flare was trashed.. thats about it.. no hood damage and a slight bend in my front bumper

Around here I see accidents on the news, and the car with 4 teens in it has 3/4 dead while the middle aged couple in the 1500 don't even go to the hospital. i don't remember the last truck death. Think of it this way as well, more weight= more momentum= Your truck doesn't come to a dead stop if you hit a car, you push into the car, your airbag deploys while the other car is absorbing your momentum and taking the damage. Thats why my physics professor says he drives a truck.
