Any chance for some step by step instructions posted up here ?

Thanks all! Well few problems....

Found out my spider gears are chewed up.. Ugh,. Cost me 200 bucks from autozone for a set.

My right side axle shaft is shot. Lemme know if you know anyone who has one... I need it today or ASAP..

And this is quite the build.. Long process

What size tires are u running on that d35. And hate to b negative Nancy but regearing will give u more power which in turn will most likely rip up that rear end.especially since u already messed up the spiders and a shaft with 4.10 unless u have aftermarket shafts and a c clip eliminator to go in as well. Just hate to c u throw money at polishing a turd as i say and end up breaking it because u regained some power.

The shafts have held up fine. Just the bearing on the right side ate it up

It's coming along. I'm just waiting on chromoly axle shafts to come in the mail. In the mean time I've powdercoated my diff cover red to match the jeeps paint. The ring and pinion are set up, I got 6 thousandths backlash, and a very nice pattern. Should run nice and smooth.

Here is a picture of the worn axle shaft

And ruined spider gears

Now just waiting on brown Santa...

Fairly tough.. You'll need a lift, press, bearing puller, long stick of rebar, a dial indicator, and lots of money to buy gear parts

Good you are doing it yourself.Pretty straight foward stuff. You set your back lash at the minimum spec. Careful , this gap can diminish when heating up -Dana rear axles do that some times. If you are sure it is not less than .006" backlash-you will probably be OK. Not to scare you. Just saying. I perfer .008" or more. I assume you checked the back lash in several different places, after you turned the pinion several times (like 20-30 revolutions). Check in 8 to 10 places just to be sure, before closing it up. IMO.

How much time did it take you from pulling cover to finishing gears?

I really gotta ask, with a nice garage, lift etc.........which obviously has a few pennies invested into it.............what are you doing wasting your time with a D35 and putting money into it? Why not swap in a D44? 33's or not. I just helped sled out a TJ on 32's that was sporting a D35 this past week. Is this just basically a street rig?

Also, any better pics of the mesh? It doesn't look fully centered. And you didn't put much marking grease on. I normally put enough on and turn it fully over a few fully revolutions of the ring gear, and then check both the front and back of the teeth.

Also, you do have a DIAL(or at least a beam) inch pound tq wrench too to properly set the pinion preload correct?

Sorry OP, if I may hi-jack the thread for a second while we have several regearing experts here. My friend wants to regear his YJ (3.07 currently). I have no worries that we have the skills to do it, but what I do question is this. Everyone he has talked to tells him he needs a special tool called a "case spreader" to get the carrier out. Does this exist / is it true, or is this another left handed hammer / bucket of steam type thing where he's being jerked around?

Well, in Illinois here we don't have much trails other that mud and creek beds. The d 35 should be fine with the little 4cy under the hood.. I have plans for a real trail jeep (a yj) in the future.. I want to keep this jeep not beat up for now. Figured the d35 with some chromoly shafts would be nice enough
