Installed LED tails in my 06

I have had the parts laying around for a while now and finally got around to buying the 4 1/2" hole saw to actually install them. The drivers side was fairly easy, but the passenger side has a mount directly behind where I cut the hole for the charcoal canister, so I had to cut down the rubber boot a bit to clear it. Still have to mount a LED for the license plate light and get a set of lights for reverse ... On to the pictures..

Lookin' good! i bought the basic 6" round LED tails...didn't require drilling or anything, and their raised about an inch off the tub. I kinda wish i went for the flush mount.
And I have been driving around for about 2 years without a tag light, and never had a problem with law enforcement.

They would bust my a$$ during the annual VA State inspection if I did not have a tag light. That is a nice clean look though, nice job BTW.

Down here in Lousyana they use license lights as probable cause to stop you to check for DWI...Actually, they use ANY reason for that....Odds are if you are clean and have all your papers, no warrants or holds, not impaired, and yada yada yada, they let you go with no ticket for no/burned out license light.

I got stopped for that and he "let me go" with a seatbelt violation...and yes all three of us were wearing them. Try explaining that to your 11 yo daughter.

Thanks guys..still trying to figure out how to go about doing the tag light. I bought a set of 12" LED flex strips earlier, but don't like the way they put off light...I will update when i get it all straightened out with that and getting a set of rear lights for reverse/off road too

Felix225,

I have seen LED tag lights on like a Greyhound bus or Charter bus, so I know they are made.

I took the license plate mount off as well, and bent the plate around the tub a little, a little help from some double sided tape held it in place. Looks really smooth, and it complements the round tail lights!
Ill snap a pic later and post it....just giving you some ideas

i forgot what they are called but i have seen a tag light that doubles as the screws that hold the tag on and they looked good in a picture, but have not seen them in person.

Now that I may look into..Not a fan of the bulky tag mount anyway, and it really does look out of place with the new lights.

Check your local motorcycle shop for those plate bolts with the lights built in them.

Working 12-14 hour days gets rough, but I managed to figure out my tag light issue...I ended up mounting the tag directly to the tub using self tapping screws and double sided tape to keep it tight against the tub. Prior to the final mounting of the plate, I used double sided 3m tape to adhere two 12" flex led strips to the tag. I am still undecided on if I like the lights or not...

Sorry for the picture quality, my cellphone doesnt do well in the dark..

Aww man, the cops around NJ would never allow those LED bars to fly. With mine, I've got a LED bar that I bought at AutoZone. It was in the ricer section and plastic-chrome. I just painted it black and it mounts right to the bolts. Originally it was supposed to be temporary, but I've ended up liking it a lot.

I used a generic trailer tag light I found at Napa and put a 194 led bulb in it. Not sure how the picture will show up, still new to uploading pics
