Installing arb air locker in d35...

I have a 98 tj that the po put 35" tires on. I want to get a arb air locker for the rear to start.

I am planning on installing the chromoly 30 spline axles plus of course the arb compressor and arb air locker...

What else should I do while changing the axles and installing the locker? What parts to replace? What going to be the weakest link now?

I would love your guys opinions... I bought this jeep last month and have gotten stuck a few times already.... Not bad enough that the winch wouldn't pull me out though.

FYI: I live in Florida and my driving conditions are little mud (nothing to extreme as I care about the interior) some steep inclines and declines, and things like that...

You're playing on borrowed time, the d35 is very iffy on anything bigger than 33s, even those have given problems, adding a locker plus 35s is a time bomb unless you have the super35 kit...

If you have the d35 and 35's you are in borrowed time. Look into the super 35 kit it upgrades the shafts and adds the arb locker, plus you can safely run those 35's without breakage

Ya that's what I heard, that's why I was saying I am changing out the shafts to the chromoly 30 spline shafts... Isn't that what the super 35 kit is, or does it have more things to make it stronger?

Is that going to make it strong enough when I add the arb air locker?

The super 35 kit also has a c clip eliminator kit and the locker. Buy those separately and you should be good.

Is their different c clip eliminator kits? What should I get as for that? Better brand or just pretty much all the same?

Unfortunately the c clip eliminator kit comes with new axle shafts, making your the shafts you ordered unnecessary. If I were you I would try to cancel the order and just order the super 35 kit

Crap... They already shipped... Hmm

If I search eBay should I be able to find the c clip eliminator that will work with the shafts I ordered?

The unfortunate thing is that the c clip eliminator requires different shafts than the normal dana 35 shafts, because the new shafts are not retained by c clips.

So those wont work for sure without the c-clip?

I should be able to return them for a small restock fee...

Is this what I should get? I believe this has the c-clip eliminator... Right?

If that's it, then I will order that, plus the compressor and the arb air locker.

The problem is the shafts you ordered are retained by the c clip, (the shaft on left) while the new shafts (on right) are not retained by the c clip, which makes them stronger

I would recommend buying the super 35 kit that comes with the ARB

I see the difference now.

Is this the one without the c clip? Or is this not the same as the one you just sent?

It's the right kit but that one comes with a Detroit locker not an arb pneumatic locker

I'm out wheeling so I can't type much but alloy 30 spline shafts are all you need to run a locker and 35" tires on a D35. A c-clip eliminator doesn't add strength and is not required.

I only assumed that made them stronger, but I'm sure your right. Although it sure is nice not to have your axle shaft sliding out if you do snap a shaft.

That definitely isn't a Super 35 kit. Not for 300 something bucks. They also list the axles as 1541H which I don't think is right, the Super 35 kit should be 4340. The 1541H indicates is a standard upgrade c-clip axle. You typically don't see 4340 c-clip shafts because they don't hold up to bearing wear.

If you bought from Summit Racing call their customer service and tell them you ordered the incorrect part. They may just intercept the shipment and have it returned if they know you'll be spending more money on another order through them.

So are you saying that I should be fine with the shafts I ordered with the c-clips? Or should I get the full super 35 kit that has the eliminator?

I upgraded my dana 35 as well, but I went with the yukon axle and locker. When I did I also regeared to 4.88 and replaced all races and bearings. I tested them n moab and they did great. I am happy with my upgrade. But will upgrade to a bigger axle n the future.

So? Do I have to have the c-clip eliminator with the chromoly shafts and a locker or no?

30 spline alloy shafts are already slightly stronger than even the OE carbon steel 30 spline shafts that come in a Dana 44. So if they are good quality alloy 30 spline shafts and you have a 30 spline locker to fit them, that's all you need. A c-clip eliminator adds no strength in and of itself so it wouldn't be for strength that you may decide to add one.

But it appears to be a moot point talking about Superior Axle's Super 35 kit which includes a c-clip eliminator. From what I can tell, Superior Axle is no more & is now effectively shut down. I have been calling them for two weeks, no answer to my calls & emails, and the employees have been let go. R.I,P. Superior Axle.
