Instatrunk Installation Issue

I bought a used Instatrunk for my '01 Wrangler on Ebay. Managed to get the "small parts kit" free from Bestop (much to their credit), but they tell me that the "flare tool" piece is not available. This appears to make the "wellnut" that mounts into the side wall flare so that it secures to the side wall of the Jeep. Without it, the "wellnut" will just pop out. Any suggestions for mounting other than trying to get a retailer to install? Thanks.

I tried to install mine with that thing, but I didn't have the exact size drill and screwed it up anyway. Ended up moving the trunk back two inches, drilling 4 small pilot holes and using sheet metal screws and it worked just fine. I added some additional weatherproofing to fit it flush with the door and actually gained a little room.

I may still have the flare tool. If you want it shoot me a PM.

BTW - welcome to WF!

I had a similar problem with a trunk that I purchased on Ebay.........no hardware other than the four thumb bolts, or whatever they are called. I pulled out the four plugs where the wellnuts should go, then I fabricated my own hardware. I purchased four 6mm nuts, the ones that look like the have a built in washer, I also purchased four fender washers that were larger than the nuts. I set a nut on the washer, tacked it on in a couple of spots with the welder. The washer is considerably larger so I had room to drill a couple of holes in the washer (opposite of each other) then I mounted them with sheetmetal screws over the holes that I pulled the plugs out of, set the trunk in and screwed in the thumb bolts, problem solved. Thanks, guys. Will see what I can do. Definitely have to watch the Ebay line of "all hardware included."

I went to a body shop and did a little "aw shucks" routine and asked if they would "rent" me their tool for about 10 minutes. Struck up a conversation about jeeps and before I knew it they just loaned me the tool. I ran out front, popped them in and was on my way.
