Buy 5 #74's TRI-LED's for the Gauge Cluster. 7, if you want your to do your turn signals as well. 8, if you also want to do your high beam indicator. etc, etc, etc.

Buy 1 #194 for your PRND21 Light.

It looks like you have a 97 TJ.
Erickpl said that his 97 takes the same in the HVAC Controls as the PRND21 housing and there is only 1. If that is the case, you would buy 1 more #194 for that.

I'm not sure about the switches yet.

I've posted all the links that you'll need throughout this thread.
You should do a different color so we can all see how it would look.

Twozerofd didn't report any issues with his Dash install. Jma mentioned to me that he had some issues when he did his, but didn't say what they were. My incident with blowing the fuses could just be a freak accident. Maybe they were all really old, and that little change was enough to pop em. I don't know. I haven't had any problems with them though, and they're back on a 10amp now and stable.

I think that Red will look bad a$$! I wanted to do Red originally, but the stereo that I ordered lights up all Blue, so I went that route.

You don't have a light in the shifter housing?
Do you have a automatic transmission?

Thanks for posting this.
I DID over look the Bulbs in the switches. I think it's because they sit more flush to the piece, and all the other Bulbs that I've swapped have had a little something to grab onto. These you actually have to use a flat head screw driver to twist and release. I'm glad these can be replaced. I have to admit that I WAS a bit irritated to have converted all my lights to Blue, and I was stuck with those Green switches.

So for my 98 TJ I'll have to order 3 Type B's for the regular light effect, and 2 Type A's for the "ON" position.
(I have stock Fog Lamps, and that's where the extra Type A comes into play)
I'm thinking of going with Blue for the regular light effect because it will match up with all the rest of the others. And then get Red for the "ON" position to match my KC switches. I'm kinda wondering what the final color will be with the "ON" indicators though. One is a Green build and the other is Yellow. The Green Plastic on the HVAC and PRND21 had very little affect on the overall color, so I wonder if this will work out to be the same, or if it will look completely different being that these are actually solid colored pieces. I guess we'll just have to find out.

I'm going to post some pics of the switch itself just to show where the bulbs are located, and what they look like.

Thumbs down Autolumination.com trouble & mjmautoinovations victory

I received an email from autolumination.com today about those lights that I returned for a refund because they were to big. I'll paste it below for everyone to read:

I am sorry to tell you but both of the bulbs you returned are bad. It appears that both been exposed to more than 17 volts during your testing of them. One was bad the instant I put it on the 12 volt power supply here, and the other failed in less than ten seconds.

Would you like them back?

I cannot refund you for them, I am sorry. Per the RMA, refunds can only be given for products that are returned in new condition.
For the best prices and selection on all automotive bulbs........

Please Visit our Website at: www.autolumination.com Tail Light Brake Light Turn Signal LED Bulbs

Thank you,

Tracy Bacon

Guys, there was NOTHING wrong with those lights other than they were too big for the housing. AUTOLUMINATION.COM flat out just wanted to keep my money on top of what I gave them for the new order. Why in the hell can't people just be honest and treat others fairly?

I ordered the Neo Wedge bulbs from them to complete the job with the switches, BUT THAT'S IT! The only reason I did that is because I haven't been able to locate another source for those particular bulbs. There's a place called VLEDS.COM that has all the rest of the bulbs, but I couldn't find the Neo Wedge there.

My advise to any of you that are starting this mod is to use another source for these LED's if at all possible. You've just seen that AUTOLUMINATION.COM refuses to back up their products, they flat out lie to steal your money, and charge ridiculous shipping and restocking fees.

If you find another source, please post it to help out your fellow Jeepers.

On a good note:
I received an email from Paypal today in my favor of the claim that I had to make against MJMAUTOINNOVATIONS on Ebay for not refunding my money on those GARBAGE PVC SPEAKER ADAPTERS.
(ANOTHER THIEF)
So I finally got my money back from that thief, but I'm not to sure what I can do about this thief. Any suggestions???

On the topic of interior lighting, does anyone know what size bulb is used for the courtesy lighting that goes under the dash to illuminate the floor for the driver and passenger?? The prior owner removed them and I can't find the numbers in a book anywhere? BTW the Dash mods look pretty sweet! Maybe thinkin of doin it my self along with that brushed aluminum dash mod.

Yeah i tried to order the neowedge base from Vled's but they don't have it. Blacktooth glad you found those bulbs in the switches, they are the same then for your year and mine. I was surprised to find little wedge bulbs under them, but i guess thats cheaper for jeep to put in than an entire illuminated switch. as for my dash install, it's blue 6 and looks just like the other pics. my only difference is that my needles are red (04 rubicons all have that) but they came out fine, just a little darker. I used the #74 led's from VLED's, its a slightly different pattern than the autoillumination tri led. but it works fine. I used 6 bulbs, 5 for the gauges and one for the highbeam indicator. everything else on my dash is lit up by the circuit board, so i dont know if i can change the turn signal indicators. i'm still waiting for the UPS guy but ill take pics of the bulbs and install and post them.

OH YEAH!!! be careful with these neowedge bulbs, they seem to be a little fragile. I already broke my stock one in the HVAC, the filament broke. and one in my defroster switch won't light, after i took it out, im thinking it may be busted too. i'll have to check my fuse panel, but i think if one switch went out all of them should??

Brad,

For your 97, it looks to be one of these:

Step/Courtesy light
212-2
89
912
912LL Long Life Upgrade: Up to twice the life of the standard lamp

Just go down to your parts store and ask to try them out. If you need to find more replecement bulbs, try this link:

Ok so here's an update: I'm STILL waiting for the UPS guy to deliver my LED's. Scheduled delivery date is today, 2/4 but the guy isnt here yet. Plus I'm leaving tonight for work and I'm workin a 24 hour shift. So with my luck the delivery will be here as soon as I drive down the road and then I won't be home until thursday night. Awesome. but that means i'll get to the install first thing friday and then post all the pics here friday afternoon. sometimes workin' shifts sucks.

You can get a wire from the stereo dimmer. I believe it was orange but double check me on that. Basically it's a light that is 0 or 12 volts. When you turn ur lights on, it tells the stereo that its dark out so it dims a bit so its easier on the eyes at night. You can run that wire down to the shifter and add ur own light.

If you want to go crazy and add some neon music lights to it, you can run a relay to that and attach the extra lights to that.

Just a thought

Ok here's my pics and install write up of the HVAC/Accesory switch lights:

First off, you need the LED's from autoillumination.com (they are the only ones with the NEO-Wedge base LED's. If ANYONE knows of a better place, please tell us! Vled's dosn't have the wedge base.) I ordered 6 Type B wedge base. 3 For the HVAC, 2 for the Switches. 1 Extra. Then 2 Type A wedge base. 1 for the Defroster on indicator and then 1 Extra. Depending on the year of your jeep, you may have different size Wedge Base bulbs. Check autoillumination.com, they will give you the measurement guide.

Onto the Install. (I apologize in advance for no pictures of the LED's my camera sucks. Check Blacktoothgrin, he had good pics of them.)

Get a good phillips head screwdriver, a flathead and a leatherman/needlenose pliers. You may need to find different ways to twist the LED's into place, the plastic base autoillumination.com uses sucks on their LED's.

1. Dismantle the Dash cover by simply prying it off.

2. Take out the 2 dash bezel screws and pop the entire dash bezel off.

3. Unscrew the 4 HVAC housing screws, pull the HVAC housing out gently and unclip all the quick connects. When you disconnect the Vent selection clip, it will probably hiss air for a few seconds. That's normal. NOTE: that the quick connect STILL connected controls the power to the lights, I left it connected so I could see when LED's were correct and working. Twist the old bulbs to get them out. Put the new LED's in. If they don't light, take the LED out and turn 180 degrees to reverse the polarity. Re-assemble the HVAC housing.

4. Unscrew the 4 screws holding the Accessory switch assembly in. Pop out the switches and do the same with these bulbs. NOTE: for the defroster indicator to light up, the jeep must be running. Once you change the LED's and they all work put everything back together.

THE RESULTS (These were taken today at 12pm, just to get an idea of the color. Again, my camera sucks and they will probably be much better at night. I'm not sure how the red on the Temp indicator will come out.)

Blue LED vs. stock green

The indicator looks redder in person
MG]

Hope this helps guys!!

Great write up! It looks great.
It looks like you went more in depth, and really gave the EXACT details.
I'm glad you did this to show people how to Mod the 99+ controls.
I wish that I had them. I really hate the cable based slider control for my HVAC.

I've been out of town for a couple days. I returned last night and found my Neo Wedge bulbs had arrived. So I'll be doing mine later this afternoon. I'll probably only post some pics and not do too much of a write up seeing as you have covered everything. Once again, great write up. And thanks again for pointing us all in the right direction for the bulbs in the switches.

Oh yeah, I FINALLY got my stereo installed. It looks BAD A$$ with all the blue. I'll post some pics of that both here and in my Stereo Thread.

I won't be able to post any pics of the completed mod until tomorrow.
I was sitting in the TJ rock'n out and playing with settings on the new HU, and time got away from me. Yep, it killed my battery.

I'll post some pics with it all lit up after i get the battery charged.

*One quick note though:
The Red LEDs won't work in the Fog Lamp switch because of the green bead,
and the Blue LED's won't work in the Defroster switch because of the yellow bead. Blue in the Fog Lamp switch WILL come out Blue, and Red in the Defroster switch Does come out pretty Red.

Thumbs up It's Done!

The Interior Lighting is finally done!

Here are the last of the pictures.
I wish the full view picture would've come out better, but at least it gives you an idea.
The new Head Unit matches up perfectly with the Blue LED Mod.
It looks lighter in the pictures just because it's alot brighter than the rest.
(just as the PRND21 Light)

Now there's not one light left green in this Rig.
I really HATE Green.

Looking forward to seeing pictures from the rest of you guys doing this Mod.
