97-06 are all tj's
arond here that tj would go for 12 to 13 all states very in price that might be a good price out there ....

Take a gander at similar Jeeps from the same year on the market ... looks like it's on par with what's out there

Nice jeep but I wouldn't pay 16k for it...maybe 16k out the door so around 13-14k sticker depending on your area. I'd check all that extra wiring under the hood before buying too...if it's screwed up make the dealer fix it before you drive it home. The last thing you want is someone else's electrical nightmare.

Awesome, thanks for the info and help everyone. So what's the difference on say an 03 X Vs an 03 Rubicon, wheel base? Is one more covetted over another?

As stated, all 97-06 are TJ's. And, no way would I pay 16K for an 03 X. That mileage you can find them for under 12K

I bought my 05 from FLORIDA in Oct 2010 with 38,000 miles for $14,400 which was what the lien balance by the PO was. I found it on autotrader.com.I live in OHIO

X is more of the base model, while the rubicon is one of the best off road setups from the factory. Upgrades to a stock tj are Dana 44 axles front and rear, lockers, 4 wheel disc brakes, mud terrain tires. There might be some I'm missing

Rubicon vs. X

16" wheels vs. 15"
front/rear air actuated lockers vs. open front/limited slip rear(?)
Dana 44 front/Dana 44 rear axle vs. Dana 30 front/35 rear axle
4:1 transfer case vs. 2.72:1
4.10 differential gears vs. 3.07 or 3.73
rear disk vs. rear drum

The experts can make corrections or fill in the gaps.

X model is the base(budget) model of TJ. Comes with a D35 rear axle, 3.07 ratio that IMO is junk. 231 transfer case, 2.72:1 ratio. Definitely not worth 15 grand.

Sport model comes with D44 in the rear, D30 up front, D30 can be built to be much strong than the stock D44. Still has the 231 transfer case, but the 3.73 gears help. Can be found in good shape for 12 grand.

The Rubicon comes with D44 front and rear, 4.10 gears. 241 transfer case which has a 4:1 ratio. and some stiffer suspension upgrades. 4 wheel disk breaks. heavy duty drivelines. Tru-Lok selectable pneumatic lockers. Can find them for 15 grand.

sahara and unlimited don't appease to me

Nice looking Jeep. I bought my 2003 with 47,000 mile MT wheels new top and a lot more chrome for $13,500, which is about right for the Phoenix area. I would think that Las Vegas would be about the same on pricing. Recommend that you take a look at craigslist Phoenix area and compare pricing. I think that you can do better.......

That Wrangler is Overpriced. I paid $15,500 for my 2009 Wrangler X this 3 months ago, and that includes a hard and soft top, with a 2 year 24K extended warranty. True my mileage is higher but it is also 6 years newer!

Rubicons started in 07 correct? So is it safe to say that going with a rubicon is a great way to go? Do they require a ton of customizing or just getting it to personal greatness?

Yes, but then again I am biased.

Customization: plenty suggested but none required. It's more about wants than needs.

Unfortunately, Jeeps go for crazy prices here in Las Vegas. I don't know why but they're super inflated. Take a look at Craigslist in Phoenix. Tons of deals to be found down there. This one honestly is on par for whats available in town.

For those of you who are saying it's overpriced:

1. Jeeps really hold their value out here in the desert climates. Just because you could get the same Jeep in Wisconsin for a few thousand less doesn't necessarily mean it's overpriced. I shopped around for quite a while before I bought mine, and unfortunately they just cost more out here. But on a plus side, you're most likely not going to find any rust on a desert Jeep!

And 2. It's at a dealership, they're always going to mark it up a bit for haggling purposes. You can always talk them down.

Just my opinion.

Ok powertrip, Ill totally agree with your whole statement. What it comes do wn to is: is it worth it to the person buying it. I get 15 miles to the gallon with 35's and high gears. Is it worth it to me? HELL YEAH, is it a bit more expensive than a prius yes but I PREFEER it. So yeah its subjective and whats that one saying......LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION.
