Is it better if i dont disconnect?

So I just got my new tires on (31" bfg's). I have a stock suspension and I have disconnecting sway bar links. Is it better to disconnect on the trail and let my tires rub or to not disconnect?

Leave them connected and avoid the tire rub. It won't make that much of a difference.

Definitely makes a difference when you're off camber. Set up your bump stops properly and you'll have no worries

After I started running Disco's I was amazed at where I could go without geting stuck/ loosing traction.....most of our "wheeling" in this area is in fairly small spaces less than (20 acres) so we turn and are off camber a lot. If you aren't discoed you are going to have issues.

I never had issues with my 31"s but had SL...didn't get discoed till I went to 33"s and another 1.25" in BL and haven't rubbed "YET"!!

Sorry what? Disconnecting even with totally stock setup makes an enormous difference and provides a hell of a lot more traction and stability. Like a previous poster said make sure you are properly bumpstopped or you could cause serious damage to the fender, not just the flares.

I agree that running disconnected helps improve traction off road.

I do not agree with the better stability while disconnected comments. By design, a swaybar provides stability. Disconnecting defeats its purpose.

This is one of the advantages of installing a Currie Antirock, and why I switched my disco's for one. More stability off road, especially in off camber situations.

Sway bar in front helps for stability on road with sudden change of direction, etc. Offroad it only pulls the Jeep off camber same as the terrain whereas if it was disconnected it allows the wheels to move with the terrain while the jeep remains significantly more level/horizontal.

The antirock provides full movement of the axle. It has the benefits of allowing the tires to move with the terrain, but also controls unwanted body roll.

I understand the advantages of the Antirock. I was referring to the stability vs disconnect part of the post.

I have 4inch lift and want to put disco on i am assuming you have to extend your brake line at the same time?

I run a SwayLoc and will always recommend going with an off-road specific swaybar vs. outright disconnecting. However, the moments of full/sudden suspension drops due to being fully disconnected on extreme off camber trails, are not enough for me to not recommend disconnecting to a Jeep, vs. remaining connected. IMO given the 2, I would advise to keep all 4 tires on the ground by disconnecting.

Of course, ideally the route to take, would be the Antirock.

Any lift 3" or above with the swaybar disconnected, I would use extended brake lines. I installed YJ brake lines. Direct fit, inexpensive.

yes, you need brake lines of the proper length.
