Hey guys, newbie here.. Been looking at purchasing a TJ. My daily is a 98 Durango with 222,000kms (137,000 miles) We have a 98 Grand Cherokee 5.9 for around the farm/business and its great still going strong with 312,000kms (192,000 miles) my mom also has a 12' Grand Cherokee 5.7. Found a nice 02' TJ, seller is a mechanic and has installed a 4 inch body and 4 inch suspension lift, looks very well done. Also has 33 inch mud terrains, 4.0, 5 speed, hard top, marine stereo. Other then that it's pretty stock. Checked all the undercarriage and there's no dings or rust. Its got a crazy 58,000 kms (36,000 miles) he's asking $12,500. Its in Alberta Canada so prices are a bit higher. Its been for sale about 2 months now. Thinking of offering him maybe $8500 around September if its still there. Oh and the windshield needs replacing. Thoughts?
As stated tall body lifts are not a great idea.. too much stress on bolts...etc.. and just look like hell. thus 1 is max most folks like to see. What rear axle does it have?
4 inch body lift is absurd. That said, it can be removed and its not like it did any damage to the vehicle. Actually, it pretty much must be removed if you ask me. Its not safe.
Thanks guys I'll make sure I mention that when I'm talking him down. And it has the Dana 44 in it. I just can't fathom spending $12,500 on something that's 12 years old.
I was kinda confused because it doesn't look like it has a 4 inch body lift (also doesn't make sense) next time I drive by I'll throw a tape measure up there and see, how high is the body usually off the frame? 1/2 an inch to an inch?
It looks like it's 4" just by looking at the fog lights in relation to the body. It's a *pretty* jeep but the price does seem high. Why not get one that's stock for 1/3rd the price and half the mileage and fix it the way you want it. But if this is the look you would want and have the cash . . .
Chiming in on the off chance there was a typo or someone misspoke about the BL. I paid 9k for my 99 TJ in Alberta this spring (130 000km) - with a 4" lift, 35" tires, a soft AND hard top as well as a cargo net, smitty bumpers, an unused winch, CB radio, snorkel, and JVC radio, as well as a few other little tweaks and mods. $12 500 seems like a pretty fair ask to me with that little mileage on an '02 - especially one that's not straight stock.
