In the market for a TJ and came across this. I wanted to ask your guys if this is a decent purchase.
Mileage 147k
Working Ac
Bikini top
1.5 body lift
Clean title
4 cylinder

No major work done according to her but I'm waiting on the vin to see if it's been involved in anything worth looking into.

Now the lady that's selling it lives an hour from me so I haven't gone to check it out in person.
From the undercarriage pics she has, there is no rot or severe rust.
She wants 4000 and I haven't negotiated yet.
It's a far drive and I don't want to waste my time if you guys think it's a NO GO.

More pics coming

Not a bad price. Looks pretty clean underneath. I guess the next question would be do you think you can live with a 4cyl?

In my experience a good deal wont last long. I think it seems like a good deal... assuming everything works as it should. Might want to jump on it before someone else does.

BTW, I love my 2.5l (so far anyway)

You'll struggle a bit with that size. Plus you'll have to use an adapter to get them to fit...plus a lift.

From what it looks like, the seller knows what she has and knows what it's worth and is giving a haggle free acceptable price. It's often you see the 2.5 4 cyls get posted at too high of a price. If you are ok with a 4cyl, which I know a few people who own them and have no complaints on the trails just that it drives like a turtle on the highway, then I'd say that it's worth a drive of an hour to test it out and see if you like it. Assuming the vin checks out and what not.

When I was shopping for my jeep, I found a few just outside of an hour drive and it's worth noting the bullet on gas and time to inspect it. I made trips to atleast 4 jeeps over an hour away and passed on the first 3. It sucked that I had to waste the gas but it would also suck not to buy a jeep that doesn't suit you.

Good luck and keep us updated.

very true. I'm going to see if I can check it out this weekend. I'll keep everyone posted.

That's the reason I'm still skeptical. It's a good price specially around here jeeps seem to be really popular so sellers are asking outrageous amounts for even rebuilt titles. The adapters arents a problem, as well as the lift. it's just the over all performance of the TJ when I add the 34s. I'm worried about over working it. With the money I'm saving I can swap the axels I guess. But the engine still might "struggle" right ? I mean I'm not going to go crawling or crazy off-roading. And south Florida is flat sooo it's not too bad right ? Tires with rims weigh in at 86 pounds each if it matters. Width is 10.5 and height is just about 34.
Doesnt look like a lift in the picture, run over a penny with 34s and youll be crunching into the fenders.
I wouldn't put on the 34s without adding more lift. From what I read, a 3-4 inch would suffice with larger tires like that right ?

I saw that Jeep on Craigslist down here in Miami. Put your finger inside the frame holes and see if it's delaminating. Test the 4wd. If AC works that's a plus.

One thing I've learned from buying cars on Craigslist (I've bought over 15 cars) it's that if it's too good to be true, it's too good to be true. I wouldn't rely much on the carfax either. Plus you'll have to pay between 20-40$ for a report.

34" tires will tax that dana 35 rear axle pretty good. I probably wouldn't install larger than 33's. If you do decide to run the 34's, and plan on wheeling it, I suggest that you at least put an aussie locker in the front, that will help take some strain off the rear when in 4wd.
