Question Is this weird?

My 01 TJ has the 4.0 in it. Weird thing is that when its outside cold overnight i jump right in and it starts up (Its been 35-40 at night here recently). If it has been running at all and i attempt to start it it takes a solid 4-5 seconds to start. WTF is going on??

I have already had to put a new starter in it, replaced the plugs and checked the air filter. Go figure im short on cash and want to do this myself. Im afraid one time its not going to start and im going to get stuck somewhere i dont want to be.

Also if there is a particular reason as to why when driving slow if I turn the wheel back and forth I get a real hard knock both sides left and right turn. Is this normal I never noticed it before.

After lookin around I am thinking maybe something to do with fuel delivery system. Is this easy to look into?

there is a tire pressure looking dealio on the fuel rail, you can hook up a gauge to read your fuel pressure at the rail and see if its adequate.

also... are you using lucas oil fuel injector cleaner regularly? I ask because it gets heavier and honey like when its really cold, and can gum up the works after its been sloshed around the tank for a while. (other than no go on cold I highly recommend the stuff)

try turning the key to the "on" position without starting it (letting the fuel pump kick on), then turn it off, then turn it to the "on" position and start it this time. if it starts right up then it's probably your fuel pressure regulator that sits on top of the fuel pump on top of the gas tank. it doesn't need to be replaced unless you just want to. there is a check valve in there that keeps fuel in the lines when the pump isn't running. hopes this helps.

Fuel pressure is 14psi initially in the rail. Make sure your getting that before you crank up. Could be a weakining relay, or fuel deliverance. No filters for fuel it's all in the fuel pressure reg.

Does your jeep knock when you hit bumps? Try bouncing the front end by pushing on the bumper if it knocks its your sway bar end links are bad. Or if you are running larger rims and tires could be them knocking when turning to sharp.

the starts are come and go but its always when the engine is hot that its hard to start. Some people suggested fuel filter. Any thoughts?????

The knock is not when its parked. Driving about 5-10 mph down the road and a little left right action on the steering wheel causes it to knock.
