Any idea why you busted the axle?

What size tires are you running?

Been doing any "Dukes of Hazard" driving lately?

Nope. Lug nuts would still be holding the wheel to the missing axle..

Ah, for some reason I thought I saw broken wheel studs in the pic.
I bet that was a wild ride till you got it stopped.

The axle may have sheared itself off or oddly the C-clip could have broken inside the differential and it slid out intact?

Glad no one was hurt. That happened to a guy in the club I'm in (NEO 4X4) earlier this year. As for this:

Yep, it'll buff right out and be better than new before you know it.

same thing happened to Wu on one car to far lol...

Glad no one was hurt! I'll bet that was a surprise! Normally when the axles break the tire is spinning fast up off the ground then comes to an abrupt stop and shears it. Not sure how it happened at 65mph unless it was broken while wheeling then slid out on the rd.

What were you doing before/when it happened? It takes a lot of torque to snap a shaft. Unless it was just a C-Clip...

The spare tire cover is sort of ironic.

That would have been great but sadly no logs were available on the 95 freeway.

I agree with the spare tire cover. Life IS good. This is an opportunity for an axle upgrade.

I have busted a half a dozen Spicer/Dana 44/45's tapered axles in my classic cars.

They always break on the road somewhere and all but one was at freeway speed. At least our Jeeps are new enough to have a dual brake system and you can stop the fool thing when they bust.

It got to where I take them out and have them "Magnafluxed" every few years.
