Intake, alternator should be covered. Dont spray water directly on the TPS. I wouldn't use a pressure washer to clean out the engine bay. A garden hose with the "laser stream" feature will do just fine.

Or you can just stay out of the mud.

Spray it with engine gunk off. Get a soft bristle brush and scrub it. Or do what I do. Leave it dirty clean the belt off, clean the alternator, clean the air box and filter the rest ehh will get cleaned by the water coming up from the road when you drive in the rain.

well the engine light is still on, but she runs

I abused my jeep badly last night

bent my bumper, broke my sway bar endlinks, and cracked a fog light... something else 2 but I forgot what it was(EDIT) she got warm and I had to turn the heat on to cool her down

before the trail

after

Go to the "dollar store" and by this spray cleaner called-AWESOME-. Just spray it all over, let it sit for 10-15 min. Then wash/rinse off with the hose. No scrubbing needed. This stuff works great!!!

I go to the self carwash and use the pressure hose but I don't pull the trigger and I don't get it to close. I just cover the intake and hose it down, I don't detail it but I wash off all the loose mud and I've never had a problem just don't use much pressure and don't get the hose to close.

Make sure the engine is not hot when you hit it with water too. I just use engine degreaser and a regular water hose, it will not get it to show condition but it will be better then it was.

Along the same lines as the degreasers everybody's talking about is the tire cleaner they have at the car wash. I clean my engine with that stuff and then spray it off with water. Pay attention to the battery terminals when the engine gets wet or dirty. You don't want any corrosion to take place.
