Jeep engine swap!

My 97 well cared for wrangler sport 4.0 gave up the ghost at 197K. A mechanic told me he could swap a motor for me, so I had him do it! The motor he put in was from A 93 Cherokee. Now the engine wont run, and he wants me to pay him for the work done! What do you suggest I do?

how did he get away with a 93 4.0 in a 97 Jeep? Maybe it's different in other states but in NYS that is a no no.. Fight him on it.. he is the one that screwed up not you... He should know better to put that engine in that jeep at least if your laws are the same

Part of "swap in a motor.." would be making it all work. Especially if he providded, picked out, or approved the motor!

Don't pay him. That's a crock of BS. I take it by the way you say "a mechanic" he's not your regular mechanic?

well if you ask me it depends on what you agreed to ahead of time. Your 97 wrangler is computer controlled... I dunno about that 93 Cherokee. Did he pull the engine from the Cherokee? Was it a running take-out? Or did you hand him an engine and pay him to pull your old one and install the new one? Need more info. If you handed him a bum motor and just paid him to install it - - then YES you should pay him for his labor, not his fault the motor is bad. Depends Depends Depends.... More info. Any idea why the Cherokee engine WONT run? No fire? Out of time? Fuel pump? Wiring harness? EGR?
