My savior was this shovel

The dirt was piled high underneath and I couldn't move. Didn't understand what was going on - one wheel was firmly on the ground other was in contact with some dirt - oh, did I mention it poured while I was at work? Now it was all cakey mud.

So just the front was hung up?

My skid plate was buried in the front and so was part of my trans.

This is after I let some air out of the tires to get traction

Do you have a high lift jack? Could jack it up and put some boulders under the front wheels then set it back down. Would give you some traction.

From this angle we realized something was holding us up in the middle ( we had dug for about forty minutes at this point)

Once I let a lot of air out of the tires and we used the jack to lift us way high, we were able to rock it some and throw into reverse and get it free!!!

This is what the issue was. This was a huge rock , not dirt, that was at the top of the pile and was wedged underneath. I guess the weight of the jeep had driven it down into the mud and it was firmly in place. We had to jack the jeep and dig out for about forty minutes, let the tire pressure go significantly and put some flat rocks underneath the back tires to get traction.

Hope it was all everyone was wanting!! I certainly had a blast!

Now that you've got it all flattened out go park on it again.

I wanted too, but I don't know if I'm brave enough. I guess it wasn't turtled in the strict sense, but early this morning I had two wheels just spinning and I wasn't moving, so that's what I assumed what had happened. Still stuck firmly though. And embarrassingly.

It was more of that rock/mud cake in the middle that had us all out of sorts.

Thanks for the pics. This was a good read. I pulled a 4wd pickup off a small snow pile that had gotten high-centered with all four wheels off the ground. Once your drive wheels are off the ground there's not much to do but start shoveling. It happens sometimes.

Glad you are out! next time, its just as effective if you only put your front 2 tires on the mound of dirt.

I think I'll keep calling it an anthill, 'cause it's pretty small. Nice to have a local keep buddy - I need to find some trails and get stick again!

Eesh, didn't think about that. Live and learn I guess. Next time I get stuck (probably in another three months or so ) I'll keep that in mind.

Seeing that pile I now have to ask: WTF is the landlord planning to do with that crap? It's all dirt and big rocks.

I wish I knew. Its annoying - just showed up one day. Hopefully they're not mad that half of it is stuck in my tires or scattered down the hill now.

...I should probably erase the tire tracks

You are a great sport for posting and letting us have a little fun with your predicament.

Some very popular modifications many add to their Jeeps probably would of proved themselves worthy all by themselves in your situation.

Lockers
Tummy tuck
Winch

A stock skid really limits your clearance when going over a short steep obstacle like that. Plus, All it takes is a little loss of traction on one side to make an open axle spin a wheel on that side. I think we've all been there at some point! At least I have.

Wow. You got stuck on that. Brave man to post. I know a guy that takes dumps bigger than that. Next time you will know, and by the way, next time get a real shovel.

Appreciate the jab, but I think I'll keep the shovel. Helped me brother in law plenty while he was deployed in Afghanistan, so I think it works pretty well

Ah. I'll have to check into that. Add it to the list :-D . One mod at a time, and then not even driveway dirt can stop me!

It's good to be humble and show that everyone makes mistakes. Well, except me. When I get stuck that's what I had planned.
