jeep purchase

hey i believe im going to close the deal on a wrangler within the next week

i was wondering if this sounds like a good deal
2004 wrangler x 4.0 i6
5spd manual
87k mileage
yellow
full doors soft top
marked down from 13 to $10,500

i haven't driven it yet but this is one of the best deals i found on anything newer then 01'

the only thing that concerns me is the mileage, ill be trading in my ranger on it and i thought that was getting up there with 76k is 87k something i should be worried about with this engine/truck?

Well maintained, that 4 liter is good for 250-300K miles.

If you are even considering a build (someday) check the rear axle. A D35c won't necessarily like big tires and offroad abuse while a D44 is a bit more stout.

Even if you don't want to build it, if it has a 35, use that against the dealer for a lower price.

Mikey,

87K is a little high for an 04, but like stevens said; you can put 250K to 300K on a well-maintained 4.0.. I put 150K on my 89 YJ w/ a 4.2. She was a runner and I beat the tar out of that rig..

I guess I would say that is a good deal considering I paid $12.5K last summer for a 2000 sport lifted 4", D44, warn8274 w/ 69,800 miles, and dual tops.. She was babied and spent most of her time garaged... I have almost $20K into her today... Definitely think about what you are planning on doing with it because those good upgrades aren't cheap and at last check, UNICEF wasn't in the "Jeep ugrades market."

OH! X2 on what stevens said about the D35.. Use that as leverage while working the deal my friend.. if the guy isn't a real jeep guy; he probably won't know that D44 rear ends were only offered as an option in Sports, Saharas, and standard in Rubicon..

Have fun and best of luck to you!

Timber

I have bought a couple of Wranglers with 100K+ miles and put 50K+ on them and never have issues. An 04 with 86K means likely highway miles which is even better.
Good Luck

bought my '03 with 72k miles for about $13 (amazing condition)... and just bought an '00 with 29k (yes... 29k) for about less than 2/3s that (almost showroom!). I think what you found is a very good price if there is no damage, structures underneath are sound, and leaks are not present. Have a great time if you do get her, but keep in mind there are a LOT of them out there and you will find an equal deal or better if you are prepared to shop. I say "yes"...
