Jeep Renegade

I cannot believe Jeep has stooped to a new low.

Also, there is already a Jeep Renegade Forum for those interested.

It looks like a Honda element or something, what does Chrysler mean when they say it can "hold it own off road"? Like if your driveway is full and you need to park in the grass?

I can already see the commercials. I picture it sliding sideways with Charlie Sheen driving it through his house. Winning! What happened to trail rated? Jeep says it's capable off road with options? Well I guess they have made liberty's a while. Not that big of a surprise when I think of it that way.

So while Jeep has been hard at work with these...

Mercedes has come up with this.

"Jeep" unfortunately no longer exists.
And now that Chrysler is done ruining them, its not even any longer, an american company, which is a big part of what "jeep" once was.

It just makes me even more proud that I own a TJ. Yep it is an aero dynamic as brick, will not exert G force on acceleration and let's not compare MPG figures with anything. It costs me money adding bits. But it will go almost anywhere and it makes me smile every time I look at it, think about it and drive it.

It reminds me of the newer FJ Cruisers.

True. I honestly don't hate it too much though, it looks better than the 2013 Chevy Equinox that my sister drives.

It looks like a wrangler's distant cousin (liberty) went out to the bar one night and made a poor decision with a kia soul

You know unfortunately, the vast majority of Jeep owners (not vast majority of wrangler, just a lot) are city dwellers. They live in the snow belt, or live on a dirt road and want the boxy look of a Jeep. Selling cars is all about profit, they are selling to the masses and doing it damn well.
That sucks for us wheelers and those devoted to heritage and nostalgia. I'm sure the Toyota guys are saying the same about the FJ and 4Runner and LandCruiser. Those were very capable (still are pretty capable) SUVs that got softened up because Americans love SUVs, but not going off pavement. Fuel economy is a big driving force now though, the US fleet of new cars need to average 54.5 MPG by 2025. That's part of why the Cherokee is so small and curvy, economy.
At this point, we can only hope that the Wrangler will stay as is.

Fun fact: Mercedes Benz G63 AMG is AMG's top selling model. It has straight axles, three locking diffs, military heritage and similar off road figures to a JKU Rubi.

I can picture it now, I will see it parked at a Starbucks and some hipster will get out and go order a crazy complicated drink or some teenage girl. Why jeep why, please just slap a fiat badge on it and call it a day

I am going to cry if the new Diesel Wrangler has IFS (as I am hearing rumors)! It better be straight axles!

If thats true then I know the first aftermarket kit will be a solid axle conversion. I just don't think jeep would be that dumb.

Wow, not a good start for Fiat/Chrysler. Looks like some euro econobox 4x4. I like the looks of front end and interior but the rest is awful especially the windows. If this is any hint as to what they are going to do to the wrangler it looks like my next vehicle may be a G-wagon... or restoring a TJ/JK.

Well, it will boil down to what sells and what is cost effective to produce/assemble/support. Most soccer mom's don't care.

I wonder how mode selection works (besides probably not very good).......

"the new Renegade aims to satisfy consumers by delivering great driving dynamics on both smooth pavement and rutted trails. Its adjustable four-wheel-drive system has auto, snow, sand and mud modes (plus an exclusive rock mode on the Trailhawk model)."

I looked at all the pics in the link. It had the instrument cluster all digital with a big picture of it driving in sand in the middle with the word "sand" under it. No bs. Thought it was funny.
